While most of the time a thread lock is pretty self explanatory, there have been a few of late that haven't been as clear.
2 current examples are "More to Lose, LAC or MEM?" and "Better chance of winning it all, DEN or GSW?" Neither thread seems inflammatory, and seem like they could generate productive discussion better than another 2018 HS prospect, dunk of the hour!, or the endless repetition of Lebron/Kobe/Lakers/Heat.
Basically, my suggestion is for each locked thread, the mod who locks it then adds a final post, stating why the thread was locked. It would only take an extra 15 seconds to do so, and reduce the number of "why is my thread locked?" posts and messages mods receive.

Oops, just saw the GSW/DEN is a 3 month bump. Still, it's only that I revisited the thread a second time that I found out why it was locked.

Re: Explanitory post on all locked threads.
GSW/DEN also has a series thread for all such discussions, it didn't need a thread all on its own when one already existed. Same deal with the LAC/MEM one. No need to double up, that's the reason we have the series threads... for all discussions pertaining to those matchups.
They were fairly obvious locks.

Re: Explanitory post on all locked threads.
It's a bait thread and there is also a very large thread (on part 2, nearing part 3) specifically discussing James Harden, so it was also redundant (especially since the focus of the thread of late has been on his flopping versus scoring tools, etc).

Thanks for the explanation but it would have been nice if a moderator explained it like that before locking it.

Re: Explanitory post on all locked threads.
Since I locked it, I'll say I thought it was pretty obvious on both accounts. There was really nothing ambiguous about why that thread was locked... it was a flagrant bait towards Harden fans and again (and more importantly), there was a huge James Harden thread dominating the PC Board anyway. This isn't the first Harden thread to be locked for that reason, and we're talking about a thread that's following in the wake of a 100-page part one that we've seen all season long.
It'd be like asking us to remind people every time on the Gen Board when their super-obvious player comparisons are locked. Don't be afraid to look at thread titles before you post a new thread, and consider whether or not your thread actually belongs as a post in an existing thread. It's easy to miss stuff if you never scroll down to the actual threads before posting, and it's even easier if you ignore page 2. We don't ask that you go scrolling through 4 or 5 pages of threads before creating a new one, but page one or two is a pretty reasonable expectation and that Harden thread has been on page one the majority of the last year.

Re: Explanitory post on all locked threads.
Thanks for the explanation tsherkin. If a mod doesn't think the reason is obvious, they typically will post a message. Some threads just get out of hand and need to be locked. A message explaining the locks are usually nice, but not required.
