Not sure if this has been suggested, and if so I apologize for being redundant.
I notice at the top of every thread there is the link "First unread post." It made me wonder if it was possible to sort by top posts, going by number of And 1s, using the same link function? There are some really amazing posts that can be lost in the long threads on this forum, but if you were able to sort by top post people could continue to see the best posts even 30 pages later if they are first visiting the thread. Not many people are going to read through that many pages ... but if they come into a hot thread late they can still get the best opinions (or comedy I suppose) via a top posts sorting function.
An obvious issue is maintaining the original post at the top of the list regardless of And 1s, for some sense of continuity. Also, any post that is quoted, with no current linking back to the OP format within the quotes, makes it hard to follow along within conversations. Nonetheless, I think this would be a nice feature, if possible.

Re: Top posts
I don't think it's possible within phpbb. It seems like it would mess up the flow of each thread a lot, but I see your point. I think it's a good suggestion, and I've seen it work well on other sites, but not one we are ready to implement with our current forum system.
