Yeah, this. It'd be cool if it showed the names of who liked it under the post like this forum as an example (http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/g ... lines.html)

It's ok I have the most +1s in the world so far thanks to that feature.

Good work on the new placement/visuals guys, looks a lot better and fits in a lot more.

Need to not be able to +1 yourself
No refresh at all
Need -1
We could be able to show how many +1s we have near posts (or net rep if we add -1)
If we add -1s, would at least be good if mods can track rep to see if posters are horribly in the red to ban trolls

Bad idea.

This is a forum where people debate topics so why promote something so lazy like a "+1"?

It takes away potential replies/debates and seems childish.

Like what's the point of it? What does it accomplish?

You could have added a working search function instead.

A -1 would be great. Or at least, if you accidentally click a +1, you should be able to take it back.

I appreciate the effort involved but without a -1 option, I don't really see the usefulness of a +1. As others have alluded, this seems a bit childish - like when even the last place team gets trophies.

No to the -1 option. We all know that if someone disagrees with someone or has an unpopular opinion, they're going to get -1'd, which is wrong. It's just going to makes everyone go with the popular opinion.

Don't like it, and here's why:

  1. Clicking the button forces a full page refresh, which not only puts extra strain on the server but degrades the user experience.

  2. What value does this really add? Will users be able to search through a particular topic and sort by post popularity? Does this add to the users overall popularity; sort of like a point system that shows how respected the user might be? Keeping a running count of +/- might be cool under the users alias (or post count). If not then this isn't a very useful feature at all.

  3. There are far better solutions out there which would not only show post popularity but also help promote RealGM's presence on the web. I'd highly recommend looking into adding a plugin such as AddThis, which is a social plugin that allows you to Like/Share on Facebook, Twitter, etc. See here: http://www.addthis.com/

I'm kind of surprised that something like that hasn't been implemented long ago. If the goal is to get more people using RealGM then what better way than to propagate topics/posts through social media outlets?

I do like that it's been repositioned to the bottom-right corner. Putting it in the "quote" button area only clutters things and also causes confusion as this is not something commonly found on message board systems, as far as I can tell.

... or use a plugin that does that for you, such as the one I mentioned above (AddThis). While the developers could write their own homegrown solution that's nothing more than reinventing the wheel.

I agree with Semi on the first point - why not use some sort of toggle that sends the info to the server without the need to refresh the page, just gray the button out after clicking so the user doesn't spam it. If the count doesn't update instantaneously, I doubt any would mind.

What about a +1 or -1 where you can see who exactly did the plusing or minusing like in yahoo?

Reminds me of the Youtube Thumbs Up/Down function. Would definitely like it better if there was a -1.

Make it so if you get -1'd enough times you get banned and +1'd enough times you become a mod. Let the inmates run this asylum

The split left/right is worse than the all right. Those little realgm logos on there for a while were a little odd.

I'd like to make a complaint about this feature. I cannot +1 my own posts anymore. If this could be rectified it would be greatly appreciated.

In my own humble RealGM veteran poster opinion, I have my input.

I can't stand the +1 positioning on the forums. It appears that every poster already put a +1 on every post. It is at the bottom of every post. What if I disagree? Then, it still shows up at the bottom of my post looking like I +1'ed my post. It appears redundant and ruins the flow of the threads as it is annoying to me where it is placed.

Personally, I think it should be just to the left of the quote or edit button with the number right next to it.

And, I like the -1 option also. Right now, it just disrupts the flow of the threads and postings while being confusing being it is at the bottom of their posts.
