It's not that serious. If people actually make posts because they want more And1's on realgm their lives are pretty sad. I like it because I like to give feedback to a poster without having to quote them and tell them that they made good points in their post.

You hit the nail on the head. I'd normally just give an And 1 but thought i'd go the extra step.

One suggestion. As well as showing number of posts and And 1's received, maybe show And 1's given. I probably would have given more And 1's than posts. They let me feel like I have added to the topic without wasting space. I personally get really annoyed having to re read basically the same thing over and over. And 1's fixed that.

A Dislike button is great, but only if it's tallied separately from the Likes. One shouldn't affect the other. The kind of post that gets a lot of likes is very different from one that accumulates a lot of likes AND dislikes.

Another thing that would truly help this site is the ability to rate threads. Too many stupid threads started by people baiting for a reaction.

It would be bad if peoples posts were buried due to the most and 1's at the top to read, like reddit for example.

I think it's hilarious, and this board needs to lighten up sometimes and heck if the and 1s are making people post FUNNY stuff, so be it.

The quality of discussion has definitely eroded since the And1. I remember some pretty heated debates back in the day where we'd actually get deep into the core of a topic. Now the discussions are shallow and overemotional.

Sometimes there will be incredibly witty comments that deserve an AND1, then you can tell people are trying too hard..

This guy is right though, it's cheapened the forums and I used to come on this site and almost every post was filled with insight and knowledge, now it's just "Who can make the best joke to the OP?" And it sucks because this forum used to be on another level in terms of basketball discussion.

The thing that really ruined it though is that ANYONE can make an account now. People who have been on this site for awhile know what i'm talking about. Back then, you couldn't just create an account, you had to register with a "Paying account" or something like that..and you had to wait for them to reply to you to let you create an account. Now anyone can make an account and you have these "Ballboys" with no knowledge of the game and i'll find 5-10 good posts in a 5+ page thread

..Probably why I just stick on the Wolves board because general board is overpopulated with Josh Smith level BBIQ posters.

Before And-1s, there were tons of replies in every thread stating simply "+1." That was just as cluttered.

I'm hoping enough people feel the same way so that a meaningful discussion will start that catches the eye of people like Howard Mass.

Having to wade through pages of bad jokes, irrelevant gifs, pictures, memes, YouTube videos, etc. because people are whoring for And 1s is making this site virtually unreadable, at least for topics that are controversial or for whatever reason will draw a lot of posters. IMO many of these post are borderline relevant and in many cases act to derail threads or at least discourage serious discussion. At times it seems as if people are more interested in saying or doing something "clever" than actually talking about the OP.

I suspect the site operators are very happy with the status quo, as it has probably increased hits per page since the system was implemented, but I think that any increase in traffic will be short term and eventually posters will migrate elsewhere. RealGM is not the only game in town.

Thoughts? I'd especially like to hear from Mods on this. they probably have a better sense of this issue (if it is one) than anyone.
