I personally like the 'AND 1' feature. I didn't read the thread, so apologies if someone already addressed the following points.

'AND 1' keeps me from quoting every post that I agree with, while allowing me to still show that I agree with it. Also, I feel it's respectful to respond to a post directed at me or my post. Sometimes I'm too busy to quote them & respond. The 'AND 1' feature allows me to acknowledge them without quoting them.

Agree with this. But the problem is, most people dont even know that their post got 'And 1'ed. So in a large thread, like on the Raptors or Knicks board, people are not going to go back and look just to see if their post got 'And 1'ed. Thats why I think there should be some sort of notification.

To be fair, users should be able to pick in the control panel whether they want the And-1 option to appear on their posts or not. That way, people who gain pleasure from it can continue to do so, and the rest can be done with it.

Great idea. Default should be yes, opting out if desired through control panel.

That idea above about each poster designating a team, yes, hell yes! To anyone who'd whine because wahhhh you like more than one team or only like individual players...Shut up, choose one team, be a real fan. If god forbid you are forced to renounce your team, then allow a switch. One per membership lifetime, max.

5 things that I'd say to do with the And 1 thing.

1. When you click it, have it just add a number, no refreshing at all. It's a pain and people won't use it.

2. Have a notification somewhere showing that your post was "And 1"ed, and maybe be able to go to that post faster. (maybe make another section next to "View Your Posts", maybe a "View Your And 1ed Posts (#)" with however many posts have that, then be able to go to them).

3. Reputation system. I'm not an idea guy, but there needs to be one somehow.

4. Make a limit on how many you can do. This prevents posters from making deals with each other just to get higher rep, if you limit it to 10 And 1's per day, or 3 for the same user or something, it would take out a lot of that.

5. Identify the highest And 1 posts of each topic. Maybe have a thing on the left side of the topic saying "top posts were made on pages 1, 3 and 4" or whatever, as well as doing something to that actual post (border, fill in diff color, some sort of symbol, ect).

That gets rid of the one big drawback that concerned me about my full-scale gamified idea for And1.

I'd remove the And 1 feature. It seems to be rarely used and the icon is a distraction.

Make the And 1 button actually worth something. Ive been on several forums where there was some kind of +1 to rep. And 1 button as currently is is completely useless. I would suggest maybe even a downvote button but knowing the trolls on here it probably wouldnt go over well. but making the and 1 button actually worth something would make people actually use it.

I agree with this. Seems as of late that it 'sticks' on that page w/o ever taking you to the thread you posted on. You have to click 'last forum' then the thread you posted in etc..etc...

Not sure if anyone else has had problems with the load page sticking

If the And 1 button is going to be kept, I think it has to mean more. There should be a tracker for each account on how many +1s you've gotten, as well as having -1s.

A more practical use for And 1s would would be using it as a criteria to replace mods when needed. It could gauge the amount of productive posts a person has had.

Nah, fans of a particular team would just And 1 everything they agree with, likely leading to a disproportionally large amount of Laker/Raptor fans, since those simply dominate the boards here. That would essentially turn into a "post just for the sake of pleasing other people" game. I don't really like the And-1's here unless there's upvotes and downvotes like Reddit.

Also any way of just getting rid of the "your message has been posted" message? Never understood the meaning of it being there.

Also would like to propose putting more posts on one page. 15 posts on a page is kind of small, leading to a ton of pages. I've been on other boards that allow you to change how many posts you see on a page, ranging from 10 to 50. I prefer 50 to be honest, wouldn't mind changing that, would also reduce whatever issue this board has with 100+-page threads.

Yes, very important point made about intentional "Reputation" and "And 1", which I forgot to mention in my suggestion post.

If RealGM does decide to add a Reputation Bar with "And 1s" adding to the Reputation Bar, it is very important to require users to spread Reputation around to other users (at least 10-15) before adding Reputation to the same user. This way, it prevents users from using the "Buddy System" to just exchange with each other.

I think instead of putting a limit on how much you can 'And 1' a day, just put a cap on how much they can 'And 1' one posters posts. Something like 3, then you have to wait 24 hours for it renew.

So pretty much, a poster can 'And 1' as many posts as they would like, but they can only 'And 1' posts from one user 3 times and then they have to wait 24 hours to 'And 1' that users posts again.
