Another thing could be prohibiting posters on all the non-team boards from And1-ing posters with the same home team designation. That way in a Comparisons or General board thread on, say, a Lakers player, it won't just be a massive circle-party of Lakers fans And1-ing each other, whereas on the Lakers board where there are intra-board disagreements, there'd be no team restrictions.

Looking at it now, it is probably best just to ditch the whole "Reputation" idea. There really is no need for it for a forum like this. From my experience, "Reputation" is used for forums where lots of people ask for answers and advice, which is not really what RealGM is for.

It is just better to keep the "And 1s" and add the total "And 1s" a user has. If posters are using the "Buddy System" to stack "And 1s", they will probably get called for being incredibly lame because we can see who "And 1ed" what.

There is no need to limit the "And 1s" a user can do.

Bottom line, quality post should get "And 1s" no matter what. Just add a border around a post when it gets a certain amount of "And 1s", and I am good!

I agree with a lot of what is being said but I will add a few wrinkles:

I think the major issue with the "and 1" feature is it does not do its job adequately enough. People want to say +1 to emphasize a good post as well as show their agreement with that individual. To make this function appropriate I would suggest that a +1 post has its text box enlarged, perhaps by a quarter inch right and left, also it should have a clear and distinct border. This would serve to draw attention to the good point. Additionally, both the person who made the post and the "and 1" would want credit, so the format IMO of the post header should go:

That solves the purpose of the and1 function.

Additionally, there could be something added to the inbox in the style of facebook alerts. Just little notifications for when you get quoted or and1'd. Those would be cool, and allow someone with my kind of ego to feel encouraged when someone reads and responds to one of my posts.

I agree with this. Seems as of late that it 'sticks' on that page w/o ever taking you to the thread you posted on. You have to click 'last forum' then the thread you posted in etc..etc...

Agreed. It really sucks too when your internet is acting up and you have to wait for 2 refreshes instead of 1.

Like someone said before, the And 1 button is rendered useless unless there is some sort of counter keeping track of all your "And 1's" you've accumilated.

I still like the option to Agree or Disagree. Because, people would still rather post a "+1" instead of checking And1 because most of the people don't notice And1. But, if there was an Agree or Disagree, then there could be a percentage of people that like or dislike a post. Especially, when it pertains to a certain trade proposal or whatnot which people may disagree.

Totally disagree. Look at other sites. It's so hard to see posts because visually all you see are avatars. I think it's find how they are personally. Maybe slightly bigger, but nothing to drastic. I like how the site tries to focus more on the conversation than the pictures.

This. 80x80 is too small. At least 100x100 or 120x120 would work. Not anymore than that though. Anyone who doesn't want to see avatars can already just turn them off anyway.

Please, please, please make the And1 button a usable feature of this site. It's a fantastic idea, and unique to this forum AFAIK. But it's implementation is garbage.

Great posts can get good recognition with the use of the feature implemented correctly.

1. When pressing the And1 button, it no longer refreshes the page or takes you back to the start of the thread (this is just terrible). Instead, it immediately populates the And1, and shows who gave the And1, without doing anything funky with the browser.

2. Users should receive notifcations that a post has been "And1'd", when they login.

3. Below the avatar, total And1 counts.

If these three are implemented correctly, quality posts will receive recognition. Funny posts will receive recognition. People who contribute quality content will have a high total posts/and1 ratio.

I would like to have Positive and Negative being that may make posters attempt to post better to get more AND1's instead of NOT1's. Then, have the ratings accumulated in their profile and just show the percentages. You know, 68% AND1 approval rate.

I don't really like the idea of approval ratings since this forum is largely opinion based. For example a Heat fan might be unfairly called for "flops" or "Not1s" or w/e its called due to unpopularity of what they say. John Hollinger would probably have an approval of 5% on the knicks board, and people would be swayed to not trust his words.

Sounds like And1 would be doing its job in that case.

Regardless, if the Flops, Fouls, or Not1's were significantly limited on a per-day per-poster basis, and what some people want to do with it is reflexively besmirch a handful of unpopular posters or teams, so be it.
