Forum Rules

Can someone explain to me how forum rules only apply to certain posters? On the Raptor board I noticed a guy posting with a green font in every post he makes. I decided to post in orange and I get a warning that I'm not allowed to do that the excuse I was given from the mod is "the poster is allowed to post because he was here before the rule came into place"

So am I to believe that because someone has been posting here for a while he is exempt from forum rules? Once upon a time it smoking in bars was legal it is now illegal, are all the smokers who picked up smoking previous to the rule allowed to smoke in bars?

I'm just trying to get a sense of how its okay to post in a certain style because you were here before they changed the rule shouldn't forum rules apply to everyone?

It might sound a little unfair, but there were/are some posters who have posted in color. ( I can of 2 from 2 different forums) But if you think of it from a visual standpoint, it would be an awful place to read if everyone posted in colors.
So while, I believe those other posters were grandfathered in prior to this rule. ( which I was not a part of) it is what it is, but too much of this would make this place unreadable. ON top of that, most mod edits are in color to separate posts and emphasis certain points, comments.

Be original, find a different go to move.

Sorry

So you are condoning this double standard? if the rules don't apply to everyone they shouldn't exist. I can understand if it becomes an epidemic but I seriously doubt people will take the time to change font color on a regular basis. I am only posting in this fashion to accentuate my team the ORANJE and their World Cup bid.

I can't see how the rules can apply to some and not to others that is just completely bogus! Of the millions of people who post here only one or two have used color it makes absolutely no sense to outlaw it unless it becomes a problem, has it?

Again, I don't know what to tell you. The only thing you are really petitioning for is the other poster lose his ability to post in color as opposed to you being able to post in color. That just won't happen.

I do have a suggestion for you though. This is an attempt to feed your need to orange.

Make a sig that is a full block of Orange. A solid color and if you are feeling chippy make your avatar all orange.

That way you could rep the team and not worry about this issue. :dontknow:

Either this is the greatest draft of all time, or you are seeing a wider talent disparity among the guys available at #13 than is the case in any draft I've ever seen.

Thirteen is a turd slot.

Dagger your right, so id rather take a kid whos a project and has high potential like Hassan Whiteside over a PG who wont be great, with such a turd slot id take a risk (unless we can move up in the draft)

It is pretty stupid how some posters are allowed to post in different colours.

I find it pretty stupid that this is what they complain about.

Weird... I have no idea how you would know if he received a warning or not.

I sent him the same PM
and he replied saying it wasn't a problem and that he understood how it would make the forum look horrible. He stopped, while you continued after being told at least three times to stop.

The rule was put in place because of the posters who post in colour and at the time we felt it would be unfair to tell them to stop when no such rule existed before. This has nothing to do with some people being above the rules but more about respecting the people that helped make this such a great forum.

See how annoying colours can be.

That is one of the better posts i've seen from you :D

The only thing I find annoying is people who take moderating a little bit too serious! thanks for the explanation though.... it still makes absolutely no sense.

The rule is:

10. Members should post in a way which is consistent with "normal writing". That is users should not post excessive numbers of emoticons, large, small or coloured text, etc. Similarly users should not SHOUT or use excessive punctuation (e.g. ! and ?) in topic titles or posts. Users consistently abusing this will be warned.

So I guess symbols could be considered if it was excessive.

I was referring to the warning I got for doing precisely the same thing other posters have and are doing. You make a point though Ozzy clearly is picking his battles and has decided to be more lenient on those with a high post count and tight with those who are fairly new.

I retract my statement.

We do not discriminate against post count. We were all newbie posters at one point. The greatest part of our forum is the diversity of opinion and the fact that we can have a open dialogue on a variety of topics. We actually would love to see more new posters join, but the other side of the coin is the enforcement of a few certain rules. Live within them and everyone is happy.

Let it be known that you only started trying to post in orange as part of your misguided crusade after you were asked not to post in all caps anymore.

Rude Boy, we're going to take this into consideration, with one caveat: to be able to evaluate whether you should be granted an exemption to use coloured font, we'll need the names of any previous accounts you've maintained. If you can either PM me the names or post them here, it would be much appreciated.

That seems more than fair. If he can prove he was around before the rule, he should be grandfathered in as well.

I'm pretty content on Boogie! posting in green, mainly because I just get used to it already.

I don't see the problem if people post in colours, as long as it isn't out of control. For example, I don't have a problem with this if he just posts in orange.

Just for personal knowledge, when did the rule kick in?
