Mod Complaint

Post#1 » by ndnow » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:21 pm

I have been issued a warning for a post in the lakers board. The post was as follows.

viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1039717&start=30

:o this thread is amazing, do you guys actually all truly believe this or is this just for show?

This was in regards to people talking about how the Heat are not a top 3 team in the east.

Following the post I was baited by a mod Danny Darko, looking to start a fight of some sort.

don't get butt hurt Heat Troll. We just know how the process works... 17 championships to 1.

championships take defense and Miami looks sad on defense. Even the antique Celtics still know this.

Now how in the hell do I receive the warning in all of this?

Board warning issued

The following is a warning which has been issued to you by an administrator or moderator of this site.

warned for trolling laker forum with non basketball one liner that was sure to invite a flame session

The reasoning I was given is that one line posts none basketball related(huh?) are only used for flaming. What on earth is going on, I get baited by a mod then given a warning?

you specifically, as you often do to multiple boards, came to start trouble and had zero to say about basketball.

After you were warned (unofficially) you continued off topic. I apologize for any lack of diplomacy that muddies your understanding of what you did, but you are troll, your posts contribute nothing, and you are trying to instigate a feud between boards that should be avoided for the sake of quality basketball discussion.

If a Lakers fan posted ^that^ on the Miami board in a thread where we are talking about, say, how many championships we could possibly win in the next 6 years, I imagine (a) that it would be reported, perhaps multiple times, and (b) that I would edit it, and (c) possibly give the poster a formal warning depending on his post history up to that point. Your history (unfortunately for you) has multiple warnings, for calling someone a jackass on the heat board, for trolling on the celitcs board twice, a 3-day suspension for trolling on the celtics board yet again, and apparently you were trolling the Bulls board just two weeks ago.

So yeah, I'd warn you for that as well.

I did not continue offtopic I responded to your post which was offtopic, if you sent it too my PM I would have responded there where it should have been. Let me grab a few one liners from other discussions you didn't warn.

You've got to really, really want attention to do something like this.

Sedale Threatt wrote:You've got to really, really want attention to do something like this.
Huh, that's ironic! A fan of Lebrick who wants just as much attention as he does

Represent, dog. What an idiot.

So why was I targeted because I am a heat fan? If you don't want fans from other teams on your board that's fine state that and tell everyone on here to stick to there own teams boards. If that is the rule let me know and I won't ever post on other boards on this site.

See the problem is almost any post from another fan is considered trolling anymore. Any opinion that differs from another persons is called trolling.

Mod's need to be aware of this and not engage is such bs. This is blatant mod abuse and I don't care what comes out of this other than show other posters on this site how the mod's work. You can twist it any way you want Danny but it won't change it.

Well as I'm pointing out, warnings can be completely unjust and unwarranted. I would love to see these warnings from the Bulls board, they're probably more outlandish than this one.

Stay on the Heat and GB and you'll be fine. The Lakers board deals with trolls year round due to the status of the team so there is almost a 0 tolerance policy. Read the rules of each individual team board as well if you're extremely worried.

No we actually are very permissive about posters from other boards that discuss basketball. The problem here is three fold-

First and foremost no matter what you say, your post was trolling and meant to insight a response from the laker board posters, while also having no worthwhile content.

Second clearly there is already tension brewing between several boards that derails logical productive posting. You in particular have gone out and stirred up trouble on the Celtics and Bulls boards besides the Lakers.

Third- it is my right to publicly warn you so that other trolls know not to insight problems. It is not your right to derail a topic again with public outcry because it furthers nothing.

If by warn you mean harass a user then job well done. Also if this warrants warnings in your books then you can't use that as an argument against me because any post in your mind from another fan base is a warning, and are given out like candy.

As an owner of 8 popular websites it amazes me that this is allowed considering this vastly lowers the page impressions to the site harassing users like this that post on other boards.

I've never had much to do with Danny Darko, but he seems like the kind of cat I'd have a beer with.

Just a note in your profile that you were trolling the Bulls board, and that other mods should consider you a prime candidate for a 7-day suspension.

Keep that in mind when you decide how to conduct yourself on other team boards.

What I mean is what was the warning for, I never received it in my PM.

It wasn't a warning via a PM.

A note was put into your profile to inform the other mods that your behavior on the Bulls board wasn't optimal. The mods can't possibly know every poster on RealGM, so notes are used to give some background information.

You're right on target man. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Regardless of what your "intentions" were, based on your initial post, you did not troll at all. The moderator in this instance is making an assumption based on possible posts in the pasts, and that is WRONG.

I've been advised to stay away from all other team boards on this website as clearly warnings/suspensions are being thrown around left, right, and center for anything that rubs others the wrong way regardless of whether or not one is breaking the TOS.

Just take the same advice I received. In fact, I'd stay away from the general boards too. It's getting just as bad.

And you guys need to look into this feature because it's easing mods into making judgment based on a poster's past instead of actually looking at the post that is the current issue.
