Policy on racial and homophobic slurs

I know that both are against the rules but homophobic slurs are not filtered and neither of these two rules are listed in the forum policies or rules thread.
viewtopic.php?f=191&t=812773viewtopic.php?f=191&t=812773If this is to be a forum for civilized discussion where everyone has a level platform for discussion no one should be alienated. You should discourage this sort of hateful mentality and immature behavior.
I'm a member of forums where zero tolerance policies where instituted on these things and the quality of the environment was better for it.

I and I'm sure most mods agree that just like in "real life" racial and homophobic slurs are among the lowest of the low.
If the policies got too specific, they could go on for pages and pages. A balance has to be struck between being clear, and having an appropriately short length so that you lose the fewest number of posters halfway through.
The items you mentioned fall well into any of these from the policies:
1b. Members should post in a way that is respectful of other users. This applies to ALL users, regardless of post count, forum rank or perceived status at RealGM. Flaming, trolling or abusing users in any way will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning.
1c. Members who disrupt the normal flow of dialogue or otherwise act in a manner that negatively affects other users’ ability to engage in real-time exchanges may be warned.
1g. Members should remember this forum is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated and will lead to a warning. Members who repeatedly evade the language censor to post offensive language may also be warned.
As such, if you run into ANY instance of homophobic or racial slurs, please use the "Report" button on the specific post. This is the quickest way to alert a mod to a violation. In fact I know a lot of your posts are on the GB, the "crackdown" policy there IS zero tolerance for any of that.
Cheers

What about the word filter? Those words can easily be added in to discourage use.

What makes you think they aren't already being filtered? Are you seeing them on the forums? Provide examples, if so.

gay
fagget
fags
faggs
fagz
fagget
homo
And if you want to search the forum for the use of these words, you can see that it isn't anything positive.

You are talking about language filter circumvention. The little explanation mark in the triangle on the post should be used and a mod will take appropriate action on the post and poster. There are too many variations on spelling to include them all. People will use numbers, asterisks and all sorts of things to circumvent. It's all against the rules.
We will also take appropriate action if Gay or Homo or any other non-slur is used pejoratively. I mean you really want us to block the word Gay on an NBA forum? Rudy's last name is not a swear.

Well, you don't have to add every variation, but those are common so you should. I can understand leaving Gay out, but no one's last name is Homo. This is not difficult to do in phpBB.

There are 2 compelling facts.
1. We can't filter every word, slang and intentionally mis-spelled words (created to by-pass the filter).
2. We do not, under any circumstances tolerate any racial and homophobic slurs. If you see it report it.
