Automatic refreshing

Post#1 » by arjay702 » Thu Mar 24, 2011 4:09 am

I think it would be a huge leap in the forums if there was automatic refreshing while we were on the boards. New topics would pop up automatically with out having the user refresh the page and when people comment it would show. And if people comment on your thread a notification would show up like facebook.

Auto refresh would also work while the user would be in a thread too. While one was reading above, new comments would just continue to appear at the bottom.

I just suggest this because the new front page of RGM looks great and I think this would make the boards even better.

I have no idea how to do this, but can it be possible with a different forum platform? or different coding?

Most PHP Forums, especially one's of this size cannot deploy a feature like that. It would cripple the Boards with constant access to the Databases.

During Peak times you see a slow down in the Boards.

Now imagine that on a hourly basis.
