New navigation

Post#1 » by dream34 » Wed Aug 1, 2012 4:23 pm

What are your guys thoughts on the new navigation at realgm.com? It will probably be implemented on the forums here as well.

I really like that you can now click directly to the Toronto Raptors forum for example.

I preferred the old layout. I find the new one too cumbersome and busy, but I get what you were going for.

I appreciate the feedback. The new one is definitely busier, but we don't feel it's too busy at all. You can ignore the drop downs and still click through like you normally would, or choose to use them to get where you want quicker. The main navigation gives you a quick glimpse at the headlines of the other sections and shows of the rest of the site better. The whole nav is also a lot more compact. The original sub nav could go 4 levels deep and was taking up a ton of space.

I like it.

People are always going to hate change.

I remember when RealGm changed the forum layout. People went crazy, but now people have learned to accept it.

Though one thing with the new navigation, it loads a little slow for me, is it faster for other people?

great improvement. i know realgm is primarily a basketball website, but it would be nice if the other sports could be implemented into the forums drop down menu. may be from the forums label it leads you to a drop down menu with just basketball/baseball/football/hockey menu that then leads further into whatever forum u want when u hover over each

i suppose all that can be ignored if you plan on implementing the change to all the different sport home pages.

:gossip: Now we know why dock really retired. Can't keep up on the job.

I like the new layout. Keeps the sites 1995 feel going while bring it up to modern times with slick drop downs. I dislike the rounded edges on the drop down though (I think square would look more uniform and possibly make the content appear less crowded).

Minor bug (possibly just Chrome based), the "edge" on either side of the main orange navigation bar is gray instead of black like the rest of the edge.

Looks great, the contrast between the orange and the grey is pretty low though. Making the text a bit whiter would help with legibility.

I like it. On high traffic days it can be a pain to click, wait, click.

How come none of the off-topic boards are available from the main page? Or are they?

You need to be signed in to see them, you'd have nonmembers clicking on the link and going nowhere
