Question for mod team regarding style and deleted posts

Hello all,

Didn't know quite where to put this...

I'm a newer mod on a different forum (Jeeps) and I have a question as to how you handle deleted posts.

I'm so used to this particular style of modding (at least how it is on the Bulls and basketball GB board), but part of it may be because of the things I don't see.

So my question is...how often do you delete or edit a post without a note or PM? I don't see a lot of mod edited posts (which is good), and when I do see them, it tends to serve as a warning to others. BUT...is there a lot more "behind the scenes" deleting and editing going on that is not seen by those with mod/admin rights?

Thanks in advance!

panthermark,

Congrats on being a Moderator on your Jeeps Forum.

As for your question, we delete or move a lot of Spam posts.

We also do some public warnings that are not always official. A lot does go on behind the scenes but not so much as in terms of editing posts.

I hope that answers your question.

Thanks.....

Now that I've been in the backroom....I'm amazed at how much goes on. I'm just trying to get used to their particular style of modding which is a lot different than what I see here.

I don't like deleting posts without leaving a comment or verbal "mod warning" in thread....that is how it is handled here (from what I've seen) and I like that style. It seems to keep the threads fairly well behaved with "self-policing".....but for all I know, there could be a lot of posts getting deleted behind the scenes that I don't know about.

Thanks again....

panthermark,

It is definitely different being on the other side.

We delete some post-padding posts but mostly spam. It's more common for us to edit them.

Good Luck with your moderating duties.
