I had to delete the RealGM iPhone App

Post#1 » by Gek » Mon Apr 29, 2013 8:19 pm

No matter the in app settings, any thread I posted in on my web browser would auto subscribe me to that thread. Then every 30 seconds I'd get a notification from the app because someone replied. I turned off all notifications in the app and it still sent them. Therefore, for my sanity and phone's battery, i had to delete the app.

There's a setting in your UCP which you should be able to access through the full site that will disable the notifications and that should, I believe, handle the issue.

Give us a couple days to update the subscribe functionality and then give it another shot. Sorry about the bombardment of notifications. I didn't realize how many people turned on Auto Notify in the UCP.

I don't think anyone turned it on. I certainly didn't, it simply appeared and was on (leastwise on the main forums, since I don't use the app).

It had been an option in the UCP for a very long time, even though it was not previously tied to anything. Over time, about 3000 or so users had enabled it so once I started rolling it out they began receiving notifications.

Oh, that must be it. Maybe many people had it enabled without realizing it, then?

Interesting.

I only get notifications when I get quoted.
Which I like, but what keeps me on tapatalk is that tapatalk automatically takes me to the post that quoted me whereas the realgm app just takes me to the app's main screen.

Oh and is there any way to get the and 1 feature on the app?

We can not add And1 to the mobile app, unfortunately. It's going to remain a scaled down version of the forums.

Please first manage your subscriptions (ucp.php?i=main&mode=subscribed) and unsubscribe from topics you do not wish to receive alerts for. Make sure you are not set to automatically subscribe to a topic (ucp.php?i=prefs&mode=post).

After you've done that, reinstall the app and use it as normal. You might need to go in the the app settings and change your notification preferences there.
