Minimum # posts to make new thread?

Is there a minimum number of posts required to make a thread? I don't recall.

If not, I think it would help prevent a lot of troll and spam posts.. and help reduce the thread-locking workload for the mods.

pbj,

It's possible we will weigh this in the future.

Users still spam in there threads but we shall see as we have considered this in the past.

If you don't mind me asking.. what's the argument against?

We have a waiting period on the GB because of spammers, returners and other problem posters. Users complain constantly, so doing something similar board-wide (even just for creating threads as opposed to all posting) wouldn't be received well, and might also present some code issues.

I am in favor of the idea though: there are lots of ballboys who shouldn't be making threads.

We will see what happens the next time we do updates.

I'd suggest if you do it to individual boards you have it done in the OTB, save us all the trouble of seeing fake passport and kitchen threads.

ReturnofMVP3,

It would probably be hard to do it program wise.

On the spammers, just hit the ! button and it will be reported to us.

I'll then just delete the user's account.

I do try to stop spammers but some get through.

Howard,

From what I have been reading in the forum software (phpbb) this sort of feature is built right in where you can pick a user class to not be allowed to make new threads. You could set it to ballboys for example in the OTB.

Regardless the ! button is always a great option, but you have a bunch of the OTB guys starting to reply to it with jokes that clutter the board. I get we all need kitchen sinks though so maybe it isn't a big deal

ReturnofMVP3,

It's something we will look into next time we do board upgrades.

I am not sure if we will do it though.

This would mean an end to the "cheap jersey and very nice quality" era.

Raps Maniac: Those would still be posted in existing threads. The Spammers will do anything for a few free seconds of ads.

Devilzsidewalk: If we do something like this, it will not be tied to AND 1's.
