AVATAR GONE?

I just noticed this morning that my avatar has been removed and wasn't sure why? Does it expire after a certain amount of time?

Didn't wanna start a new thread for this. But hoping you can help me out. I see some have GIF avatars. I'm trying to use one but it won't let me. It is hosted from imgur, and it's 100x100.

Mine is suddenly gone, no idea what happened. Text just says "user avatar". I've noticed quite a few have disappeared on here.
