Get what your saying could also lighten up some of the load. Have it similar to Arstechina.com where enough downvotes/-1s buries a post. This would help with spam, hate speech, and ridiculous statements like vaccines cause autism from being seen. It would be a self moderation of sorts. Also lets say someone starts a new account and quickly accumulates like 500 negative points that should be a clear indication they are a troll.

Would be nice to be able to tell if I've already And 1'ed a post. When I go back to a page I can see the +1 button again, and clicking it has the effect of -1.

When we next do upgrades, all options could be considered.
