Trade Deadline Outage
We sincerely apologize for the forum outages this week. This has been a frustrating few days where we had a brief outage on Wednesday and then a total outage for several hours at the trade deadline. Of all days to have an outage, this is obviously one of the worst, especially right as the trade deadline is wrapping and everyone wants to discuss it.
Our server host had issues with the increased demand and the alarms in place to fix it did not reach them for several hours. We were scrambling behind the scenes to bring them back live, but it took entirely too long for it to be fixed. More importantly, it shouldn't go down at all. This was a common occurrence at the trade deadline and draft approximately 20 years ago, but we've taken a number of steps to improve site performance over the years and it hasn't happened recently. We thought the forums could withstand the traffic, but we were clearly wrong.
We are already in the process of upgrading the servers and putting more failsafes in place for situations like this. We will also be asking for more feedback for other ways we can more broadly improve the user experience on the forums.

Great to hear. I think the best experience is through the Android App and would love an Apple equivalent. Another user experience suggestion is to add the and 1 functionality to the app.

Re: Trade Deadline Outage
Not sure this applies but on another site...that also crashes...lol...they have tried a few things to help things be better.
On the trade deadline day....limit that only Mods can make threads. Also turn off people's avatars which uses up bandwidth.
Others will know way more than me, but maybe those things help.
Of course when you have a Luka to LA deal days beforehand, you get caught off guard.
But nice to see you are acknowledging the issue and taking steps to try and rectify it.

Thank you.
If you are taking more feedback, the biggest issue with this site is that it is practically unusable on mobile. You are really hamstringing yourself having an unusable mobile site in the year 2025.

If we just shut down the Raptors forum I think that would solve all issues. I kid, I kid.

Re: Trade Deadline Outage
The last 10 days or so I experienced 3 outtages. And I wasn't visiting daily! This board isn't as reliable anymore. We need to look elsewhere.

You just don't have the killer instinct to stop us. The greatest fanbase in the NBA will shut it down again at the draft lottery 3 months from now. Be prepared

Oh don’t get me wrong, I like talking to the homies. That has nothing to do with the infrastructure and people running this website

I kept wondering why the traffic got so big at the deadline with no major moves that I could think of. Then I realized Brandon Ingram to the Raptors (by far our biggest forum) likely did it.

Nothing to apologize for. People thought it was going to be a quiet trade deadline, but they were wrong!

Why don't we have a backup Discord server in case there is an outage?

Because they can’t put 50 site breaking ads on a discord server

I'm just glad the site is here and appreciative to the team that allows us to talk basketball. The fact that it went down, while not ideal, it happens. We'll all be fine. No point in complaining that we had to wait a few extra hours to talk bball.

I agree. Let’s be thankful for what we have

Perhaps getting rid of the useless video highlights would help. It’s 2025, no one is going to a forum to watch daily highlights and recaps.

While I agree, I personally don't watch them. It wouldn't impact the issue that happened.
