OT: RealGM Malware?

Post#1 » by N4U|Redux » Thu Jan 24, 2008 11:55 pm

Normally I browse forums on Linux, so I'm not worried about malware, however, using Windows Vista coupled with Avast Anti-Virus I'm getting some unsettling results that I usually only get at 'bad' sites.

Could be a false positive, but its interesting that I'm getting it.

I know this site uses tracking cookies that norton considers a low level security risk. I have'nt heard anything about malware and I'm not even sure what that is. I do know this site used to use alot of popups, but I never see any anymore. Not sure why. It all way's comes down to advertizing. They have to find a way to make the site profitable with out hurting it's user friendlieness and with out pissing off it's customer, or base users.

I've reported this to the higher-ups.

I'll update you when I get feedback, but for now I'm moving this to the Feedback and Suggestions Forum.

My guess is it ad related. It may also be a heuristic thing.

Basically, if there's a new ad that my ad blocker is not catching and filtering out and it's making it to the virus scanner perhaps that's causing it because I've never seen something like that for this site. As said, I only see it for the more 'bad' (no, not porn, more like "computer security") sites.

Same exact problem with Avast throwing up the same warning. Kinda scary actually.

Ok, cool.

Now we need to figure out if it's a false positive from Avast, or if Avast is detecting something that is not necessarily 'good.'

On a side note, I no longer receive the warning.
