Can something please be done about the spammers?

Post#1 » by Comet » Mon Mar 17, 2008 12:35 am

All the previously-banned posters are now advertising their stupid board on RealGM. Their bull is ruining this place, and I'm sick and tired of it.

I realize that spammers are banned right away, but that's not good enough. They just keep coming back under new names and IP addresses. There needs to be a more effective ban system so that it's harder to re-register.

I personally like the idea of uploading a trojan virus through their site that will redirect all of their users to the Department of Homeland Security's website whenever they type "RealGM". (NOTE: this is a generally sarcastic statement that most certainly does not represent the views of RealGM's ownership group or management).

I get what you are saying. We do have some limitations in our ability to quickly ban spammers like them. The mods and admins take care of them as fast as they can, but that doesn't prevent the damage from being done. It's just too bad that a bunch of immature imbeciles get their jollys by disrupting this site. Sad and pathetic IMO.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

seriously does it take like 2 weeks to waive someone? it should be a button like the "quote" button so a mod can waive-on-demand.

I agree. Spammers are able to post over 30 times before they get banned two days later. From now on anyone who even posts up that link should be waived right away.

Also putting that link into the filter so it comes out censored would be nice.

As a mod, I'd like the opportunity to at least temporarily suspend someone like a spammer from posting, but perhaps others think some mods would abuse that power?

I would, most definitely.

:reporter:: I'd like a higher bannedwidth on this site!

You know it's funny, we tried making a "Official All-NEw Spammers Please post in this thread" thread, but it just never caught on. They must not have seen it.

Anyhow Comet, stop spamming the feedback board with this stuff.

Do you guys really think its that big of a nuisance?

I mean, they last for a couple hours usually, at most.

There was one that made the rounds on the Bulls board. He made 15 posts. Big deal.

I don't support that, but its hardly a big deal.

i only think its a big deal if they post in one of my threads and it gets deleted just because of that which happened, other than that you're right

I'm honestly getting sick of the sportsworld/kyphi spammers. Why the heck do we need to know of their issues, or whatever it is? That's what MSN is for..

It's not difficult to handle as a mod; it takes roughly 15 seconds to delete their threads.

It only becomes something of a big deal when they really cross the line; in the past, they've spammed the board with porn, and last night, with a message telling a poster to kill himself. That's taking the attention whoring just a touch too far.

It's pretty well under control now, I think we nailed them without anyone even seeing their sh*tty spam.
