Why are nearly all mods homers?

Post#1 » by NyKnicks1714 » Tue Apr 8, 2008 6:06 am

This is actually a serious question. It seems that just about 95% of team forum mods are just complete homers, whether it's posting ridiculous trade ideas or bashing opposing players while defending their own (when neither is warranted). Is it part of the criteria for selecting mods? Again, I'm 100% serious with this question.

Well, if 95% of the team forum mods are complete homers, it's primarily because 95% of the posters on RealGM are complete homers. Mods aren't employees, they're posters like the rest. They end up being mods on their team forum because they're active and engaged. That generally indicates that they're pretty committed fans of that team.

People throw the term "homer" around like it's a bad thing. This is a fan forum. Each team's forum is going to have an noticeable bias towards that particular team. It's simply foolish to expect otherwise.

This charge is a pretty broad generalization, but I suspect it's coming from a specific incident. If there is a case where a mod of another team's board is treating you or fans of another team improperly, then you should PM either that mod, the other mods on that board, or the mods on your board to get that addressed.

If you just disagree with a mod's opinion as a poster, and you've decided to take a shot at the 95% based on your sampling of probably not more than 5%, well, there's really not much that can be done about that.
I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

I can name a few mods that always give great, unbiased opinions, and I love reading their posts.

tsherkin

Doctor MJ - Even though he hates Al Jefferson, I can't deny his knowledge of the game.

Just a few mods that I enjoy.

Add MickeyDavis to the list. He gives unbiased opinions of everyone except the players on his favorite team (Bucks) who he all hates equally.

A lot of it also depends on which board you are on...

This didn't stem from any particular incident. It comes from the Knicks mods actually, who I find to be huge homers (most of them). I've never had any run-ins with other teams' mods, except for maybe chitownsports, who's also a Knick homer.

And when I use that term, i don't mean just a bias towards the team, everyone on here has that. It's just that often times you'll see ridiculous things as far as player comparisons (just overrating our players like crazy), trade proposals, and predictions. One Knick mod is actually convinced that the New York Knicks have "the best and most passionate fan base in the world". Also consider that so many posters who have had opposing pov's on the Knicks board have been banned for one reason or another.

the Jamal Crawford worshiper is the worst homer. It is sad that he has had to make another screen name JCrawford11, to agree with his views.

But seriously, can someone please waive JCrawford11. He keeps calling out posters, and spamming the Knicks board.

Just one hour ago he made a topic called

Scalibrine- all because a poster named scalibrine disagreed with him.

The mods on our board are definitely homers. Besides Flaming Mo, he is quite possibly the best poster on this entire site outside of NetsForce. Mo is great, you guys should make him an admin, and get rid of the admin who has repetitively banned people because they called out the Knicks organization for not doing the right things. He also deletes threads when he disagrees with someone's opinion.

Maybe give Flash3 some power on the Knicks board, he is a great Mod too.

Jemini80, if you have an issue with the way any particular board is modded, you may want to start with a PM to a board mod you trust (in this instance, you cite Flaming Mo). Tell him your concerns via PM and use specifics.

If you have problems with an admin, please PM another admin about it - again, provide specifics b/c it makes it easier for you to make your case.

Calling NetsForce a great poster makes you lose all credibility you once had.

pfft, the only way I'd trade a top poster on the CA board to any other board is for their franchise player, their 2nd option player, 2 future #1 picks - years of my choosing,as much cash as possible, and a free meal at Bennegans

The Raps board offers Jose Calderon, Andrea Bargnani, first rounders in 2008 and 2010, and a $5 gift certificate to Dairy Queen (I'm good for it) for the rights to safi. We'll even take back a junk contract (Heat_team02?) if necessary.

change the draft picks to 2009 and 2011, take one more contract of our choosing to be named no later than midpoint next season, and you have a deal.

What I want to know is why mods feel as if they can just delete any post that doesn't paint their team in a positive light. A fan can say the dumbest **** imaginable and someone laughing at that? Not allowed!!! You have been warned!!! What kind of bull is that?
