Manny is Done

Post#1 » by BS007 » Sun Jun 17, 2007 3:03 am

Manny is done. He's lost that power that he had in his prime. If the Sox wanted an average hitter, they should get Ichiro out here. Manny is paid to hit home runs. 25 HR for 18 million is not worth it

Ah this is going to be a fun thread to look back on later in the season. I do admit his power numbers are down so far, but right now he is hitting well this month. He still has power and I'm sure a 8 or 9 hr month is right around the corner.

Ortiz is in the same boat right now too. Last year he finished June with 23 hr's. He's not going to get close to that this season. I'm not worried about either of these guys tho.

2 and a half months of a season is not a slump. A slump goes maybe a month, month and a half, but not this long. Manny isn't even in a slump, he's raised his average to .293. The Power just isn't there anymore.

Come on now, think before posting this crap. For the past 9 seasons Manny has hit atleast 30 homeruns and 100 RBI's. In 1997 he didn't. He hit 26 hr's and 88 rbi's while batting .328. Then the two seasons previous to that he hit atleast 30hr's and 100 rbi's again. So maybe he will only hit 26-30 hr's and drive in 90-100 rbi's, but I guarantee that he will get "back on track" next year (whether it's with the sox or not).

Slumps don't happen for that long? Actually he's been great in June so far. OBP of .533 is just sick, his slugging is down, but his OPS is above his career average for this month. Manny's power will come he's always been a big homerun hitter in the months of June and July. Both Manny and Ortiz have not lost their power.

Yeah because all those monster shots he's hit this season they've actually be propelled via a small cannon Manny hides in his back pocket.

Not to mention that 1. Manny's been slugging in the fives since May and 2. he increased his OBP nearly 100 points since then.

So is the power no longer there for David Ortiz? His homeruns are way down. Both still have power.

I'm going to love this thread in a month or two.

This thread is going to look worse than the Dustin Pedroia thread in a month.

Ah, I see what he was doing. It's a Dustin Pedroia-style mojo thread. Well played Mr. BS007; well played.

Even with said slump Manny is going to hit 30 HRs, bat .300 and knock in 120 RBIs. In a down year.

25/100, thats what i see of him. Screw it, i don't care if he hits home runs, as long as he drives guys in i'm happy. But 100 isn't enough for 20 million a year

He'll drive in plenty of guys. Hard to drive in guys when you had Lugo or Coco never getting on base. If Drew and Pedroia can get on base in seems to make sense that his RBI numbers will go up.

For the record, when this thread was created, Manny was hitting .290/.394/.466.

Check back periodically for updates. But since then (2 games) he has raised his OPS 19 points.

Well it's also pretty crazy that Manny drives in so many RbI's considering he has been hitting behind Ortiz the last few years. I think the red sox have been getting there moneys worth out of him, not only from his statisitcs but also by keeping him off the Yankees.

How is it crazy? You are going to get a **** of RBI when David Ortiz and Kevin Youkilis hit in front of you.

I dunno I guess I might be wrong, but since Ortiz clears the bases so much doesn't that take away a lot of base runners from manny?

.300/.401/.498

He's about one strong week away from being back to .300/.400/.600 where he usually ends up at the end of the season.
