memo to wiretap PHIL SAID "OUTSIDE SHOOTER" NOT SHOOTER

Post#1 » by THEmasterWAYNE » Thu Feb 12, 2009 3:46 am

Jordan's midrange jump-shot can never be surpassed by Kobe or any other scorer. So Jordan has the better post-up game, mid-range shot, drive to the hoop, basically everything but the 3point shot, though Jordan has 6 threes in the first half of a Finals game and he did shoot 42% downtown in 95-96 when they brought the fences in. I mean, you could say exactly the same thing about Paul Pierce, he is a better outside shooter than both Jordan and Kobe :D

Jordan's mid-range jumper was pretty streaky. To say that Jordan's could never be surpassed is pretty ridiculous.

Yeah thats why he shot 53%fg in his prime (sooooooo streaky compared to Mr 45% Kobe), and before you say he only dunked maybe watch a few games, how about his 63 and 69 point games where almost every field goal was a jump-shot. Jordan perfected the jump-shot to a point where he was known as the purest shooter in the game outside of Reggie Miller. Any basketball handbook in the early90s will tell you the same :D

Sometimes I really hate Phil.
He must be one of the poster in realgm and want to start another war here.

But seriously though, everyone knows Phil likes to kiss his best player's ass. Anyone who takes his comment for real is just plain stupid. And this is coming from a Lakers fan.

Jordan as the purest shooter in the game?
Hahahahaha, you got me on that one.

To be honest what really separate Jordan and Kobe on offense is his mentality to back down his defender or drive to the basket and draws foul. His shot selection is much better than Kobe. But purest shooter in the game? :D

Nobody in the NBA had a more reliable mid-range game than Jordan. That is one of the criticisms of the NBA this century is the death of the mid-range game, the mid-range game Jordan lived by as he never gave in to the lure of the 3-ball, the lazy option, the tired legs option, the chucker option and the NBA Finals option for Kobe :D

G Hills mid range game when he was with Detroit was money.

No Jordan while being the GOAT was not and will never be the purest shooter in the game.

Shooting. In terms of basketball skills, I believe Kobe has more range. But like Tex Winter (who assistant coached both Jordan and Kobe) said, Kobe's not necessarily a better shooter. Jordan can hit the mid range with more consistency. Kobe has more range but how much further beyond the line do you need to shoot when it all counts the same 3 points? And if you don't think Jordan can hit a three, remember the 6 he dropped in the Finals and the shrug? That was six 3's, 35 points in ONE half, in the playoffs - the NBA Finals. That was on the biggest stage, not on some meaningless regular season game against the worst team in the league. That said, Kobe does have more range and can hit the 3 with even a defender on him. He needs to do that because Jordan also has a better post move and simply does not need to venture out further. It is simply a law of nature, why go out more when inside is higher percentage? It all shows up in the FG %'s. For his career, Jordan was above a 50% FG shooter. Kobe? .438 and never had a season that was over 50%. So for Kobe to hit the same 30 points a game, he's doing it by jacking up and missing more shots. Thus creating less opportunity for his teammates to shoot.

I agree with Phil, but I don't agree with Wiretap's misleading headline. Big difference between "shooter" and "outside shooter" :D
