Threads and Posts Being Deleted With No Explanation

Post#1 » by alysomji » Mon Jan 25, 2010 1:59 am

This board has changed a lot since when I first joined

The moderation has become unbelievably heavy...threads getting locked left and right, or, rather, more often deleted, along with many posts

Already, two Victory Girl threads that were started were locked and deleted

I've seen a couple of my own posts today (I don't post often), harmless and not breaking the TOS in anyway, get deleted with no explanation whatsoever

Simply unacceptable for there to be such a heavy and hidden hand over this board

As Mods we try are best to put an explanation on why a thread is being locked. It gets hard at times though with so many posts being made and with so many users online all at once such as right now after a big win.

If you ever have an issue with a locked thread you can contact us at any time via Email. The contact is available in the rules thread.

I don't feel the board has changed in any way though, it's always been a challenge with such a large fan base, but good threads stay open while others get locked. it's that simple.

For example the victory girl thread was locked because within 5 posts someone mentioned gang rape. Garbage like that doesn't do anything for the forum, and if people continue to be morons then we will continue to lock threads that go down the wrong path.

I've been here awhile as well and i've seen some really interesting threads that have garnered many pages of responses only to be locked by a couple posters getting into their private wars bringing the rest of the posters into it. As for the mods they do ok, thankless job, i wouldn't want it.

I agree with the mods.

80% of the posts are not useful (like 'OMGLOL'), and a few of them are disrespectful or off-topic.
I think all the post should be 'normal' (add information, detailed opinion, etc.), and the rest deleted.

I also look at discussion forums in anesthesiology, and occasionnaly architecture and photography. In these forums, inappropriate posts are very rare, and the mod job far easier (one 'off-topic' post can lead to a 'warning').

In this Raptors forum, the rules should be more strict, well understanded by users and used firmly by mods. After a few months of complaining and bans, the forum would become more interesting.

There should be 2 game threads and 2 post-game threads : one with useful comments, analysis, etc. (probably 5 pages), and one with 'emotion' and garbage posts (100 pages). I missed missed the last game and I have no time to read 130 pages to have an idea of the game.
Eric

P.S.: A big advantage of the Realgm Raptors forum over the other forums (more 'serious' topics) is the humor content. Some posts are very funny, and as long as it's not disrespectful (rarely), I prefer that this doesn't change.

Sorry for my bad english.
"But the thing is, maybe I do want to wake up one morning and say, `Baby, let's go to the Bahamas. Today.' That costs money. So what if I want to do that?

I see this thread was re-opened after being locked for, apparently, no reason...but now it seems to be off the Raps board which is actually the board it's directly pertinent to

My only issue is with someone deciding which threads are "good" and which are "bad"...there seems to be a lot more of that than there was back in the day with Mak, Loogie, et al...there were a lot of past mods

Maybe I'm just old but,

If the TOS are not violated, posts and threads should not be deleted...it is not the job of a moderator to determine what's "good" or "bad" but simply to apply the TOS, from my point of view

I strongly believe that cracking down on immature posts and users is a much better policy than shutting down entire threads. Mods need to focus on 'moderating' threads rather than choosing what is worth discussion. (content related to Raptors.) I respect your opinion LittleOzzy, but I must agree with alysomji when he says that the board has changed. Several years ago the forum seemed to be more enjoyable, but to the moderators credit there has been a significant increase in immature posts/posters.

Using the example of the Victory Girl thread, I don't see the harm in such if indeed the discussion is related to who performs the best. Having attractive women in threads is not the problem, immature users who make references to extremely criminal acts against morality should be immediately banned without warning; not the person who simply made a thread to discuss essentially the player of the game but done with some difference.

I know that mods do have a hard job to police this thread but I think most members would agree that sometimes the moderating can be a little too much which negatively affects the board in general.
