Every great thing usually comes to an end and 99.9% of the time it's because of money.
Wonder if NBC is going to take back their famous "NBA on NBC" theme song that Fox Sports strangely started using on college basketball broadcasts.

But how is the NBA losing popularity with attendance up, merchandise sales up, cities lobbying for expansion teams...I get it, we're old and the new NBA is more flashy and soft but it looks like that's what the modern fans want since it's generating all of this revenue. If you were Silver what would you do?
I mean, I dont think I wrote anywhere in my post that the NBA is losing popularity. I even said I was happy it is gaining popularity, so Im not sure what you're trying to say/prove here.
You say "but if you give Silver a choice to make even more money but lose the popularity he gained he would do it in an instant.".
If you say this when the topic is regarding him making this decision (NBA broadcasting rights) it's very easy to misunderstand that you're not talking about how this current decision is all about money, unpopular in your eyes, and how the NBA could lose popularity in the long run because of his greedy shortsidedness.
Saying this is the "vibe" he gives you during said topic kind of muddles things.
Im saying, if Silver was presented with a choice of:
a) make the same deal and maintain the same level of popularity
vs.
b) Make more money on the deal but you will lose some popularity
..I think he would go with option B 10 times out of 10.

The comment right below urs is the most recent reason..MitchB3 wrote:Inside the NBA is one of the reasons why they got a new deal, but Silver elects not to re-sign with TNT (WBD), because NBC gives him the money the NBA wants.
It's all 100% about the money with him. Im happy the NBA has gained popularity, but if you give Silver a choice to make even more money but lose the popularity he gained he would do it in an instant. Those are the vibes he has given me since he took over.

Can I start with this "merchandise sales up" inflation... Back then $200 could get you possibly 3 items. Now that same $200 get you 1 great quality item, and/or 2 solid items. They tie "attendance" to the price of tickets... Let me put it this way, INFLATION is one of the reason the NBA seems to have gain popularity when in reality it's not as popular.
