Jeff Van Gundy Could Join Joe Mazzulla's Coaching Staff Next Season

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jun 2, 2024 8:42 pm

The Boston Celtics are exploring the idea of Jeff Van Gundy joining Joe Mazzulla's coaching staff as an assistant next season, league sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

Van Gundy is currently working with the team as a senior consultant on the basketball operations side.

The Celtics are losing top assistant Charles Lee to the Hornets this offseason.

Van Gundy turned down a role on Jason Kidd's staff last summer.

Ya, there’s more power in what JVG is doing now. He’s not going to accept a lead assistant role. He’s likely going to go back into broadcasting with this new TV deal too.

I'm more alluding to the idea of JVG potentially replacing Mazzulla down the line similar to how Doc Rivers was brought into a consulting role and ended up replacing Griffin.
