Brook Lopez Could Be Moved This Offseason

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Jun 20, 2024 12:33 pm

The Milwaukee Bucks have some roster decisions to make this summer. The Bucks are starting a full year with Doc Rivers as head coach, and may look to make some scheme changes entering next season.

One player who could be impacted is Brook Lopez. Milwaukee reportedly would like to play a more versatile style of defense next season. That could lead to Lopez being available via trade this summer.

Lopez has one season left on his deal at $23 million. He's also heading into his age-36 season. Despite his age, Lopez has remained productive player, as he averaged 12.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game last season.

I haven't watched much of Brook over the past few seasons. Is he still starter worthy in the right offensive system, or is he a decent backup big with range?

Lakers gotta bring him home perfect fit next to AD. Never shoulda let him walk to begin with.

Wow. Had zero memory of BroLo being on the Lakers.

He makes starter money, a team is expecting him to start. He's serviceable but very inconsistent. Wants to hangout at the 3 pointer line on offensive and doesn't hit the boards for someone his height.

Sure. Replace Jrue with Dame and then cast blame on Lopez for your defensive struggles.

He's still pretty good if you put him in drop defense and you have decent perimeter defense. The real issues begin in the playoffs when plodders like him start to get played off the court unless he's going up against another big like Jokic, Embiid or someone less quick. He seems like he'd be a good fit with OKC, next to Chet.

Exactly, I've been saying the same thing since they let him leave. Still can't believe they didn't make a serious attempt to keep him, like you said he's perfect next to AD.

The Lakers have nothing MIL wants or needs.

I think "Wants to hangout at the 3 pointer line" is a mischaracterization.... I think his coaching staff rightfully wants him stretching the floor because Giannis can't. But yes, he has always been a poor rebounder for his position and size. His move to the perimeter hasn't helped that.

He would start on a lot of teams but would benefit from a reduction in minutes. He would start in GSW or NOP but essentially split time with Loony or Nance. Both teams could use his spacing and D. He's a true Center and still too good to play limited reserve minutes behind a quality center. But he could come off the bench behind a PF/C that could move to PF when he comes on. Holmgren, Turner, AD, 3-J's, etc.

Situation will dictate, but Brooke doesn't seem like the type to make a stink about taking on a bench role.

I'm not sure what that solves for MIL. Both teams need to get something out of a deal. Brooke was 1st-team all-D last season... Rui is a reserve. Maybe Rui, Vanderbuilt and a pick... but that might make both teams worse.

I don't think Presti would have any idea how to trade for an old, expensive player and not assume the other team is paying them first round picks to just take the player.

Brooke is still a valuable contributor in the right role - he has limitations, but he's useful where needed. Why is it that his twin brother, Robin, plays like he's so much older?
