LeBron James Likely To Take Three-Year, $160M Max After Lakers Lose Out On Klay Thompson

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jul 1, 2024 7:22 pm

LeBron James is now likely to take his full three-year max at $160 million after James Harden, Klay Thompson and Jonas Valanciunas all agreed to sign with other teams. The trio players were identified as targets James would be willing to take less money to help the Lakers acquire. James reportedly reached out to Thompson with a recruiting pitch at the start of free agency on Sunday.

"For the Lakers, ultimately, LeBron James probably takes that full max," said Adrian Wojnarowski on Sports Center. "Because the kind of impact player they hoped they could get is not available to them."

James begins training camp with Team USA in Las Vegas this weekend with the expectation his contract will be signed by then. James is a free agent after opting out of his $51.4 million player option for 24-25.

James appeared in 71 games last season, averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists and was an All-NBA Third Team selection for the third consecutive season.

Aside from Malik Monk, everyone who has signed there in the last 3-4 yrs have lost value after becoming a Laker...especially those dummies who took less to go there. It's a career killer. Remember Gabe Vincent was the game changer? Dude is bout to be minimum salary going forward. That fool Harrell turned down the Max from Charlotte to go there now he plays for the min. Aint no one joining that circus

This is a CBA question- do the Lakers have to offer LeBron the max amount?

I mean, is he going to leave now that Bronny and his bestie JJ are there? I don’t think so. So if the Lakers are not required to offer the max, why would they?

Dennis Schroeder looked good. Lonnie Walker had his moments. Not everyone is going to look great. Honestly Malik Monk really was a solid shooter so that helped. For some reason LAL/Pelinka had a playbook from CLE/MIA which was surround LBJ with as many shooters as possible. They’ve been dreadful in that department. Actually by adding Russ it was the complete opposite. Buddy Hield would be a quietly solid move imo to pair him with LBJ/AD to help stretch the court

Rich Paul also manage Jusuf Nurkic. There were talks about trading him. I think LA needs one more big guy if they want to be contender for next season.

Nunn and Gabe both got injured and at the time took the best offers they had available lol.. monk and lonnie walker got better offers after playing well. Gabe had one good shooting stretch and is completely overrated your a fool.. AC KCP Danny Green all looked good there Dennis was offered a sizable contract turned it down and noone wanted chased at the celtics for less money and looked terrible fell to a min contract..

Cause he made ALL NBA and they arent stupid.. Lakers reputation is they look after thier stars and that brings the next star there. Lebron will be worth the max maybe year 3 will be different.

It doesn’t seem like LA has the same gravitational pull on “stars” anymore, but hey, we’ll see in 3 years I guess.
