Bucks Interested In Gary Trent Jr.

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jul 15, 2024 4:12 pm

The Milwaukee Bucks are among the teams with interest in signing Gary Trent Jr., sources tell Shams Charania of The Athletic. Trent had been expected to become a free agent in 2023, but opted into his $18.5 million option for 23-24 with the Toronto Raptors with the sides considering an extension. An extension never materialized and the Raptors have moved on.

In 71 games last season, Trent averaged 13.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 28.1 minutes. Trent shot 39.3 percent on three-pointers last season.

Trent, who is represented by Rich Paul and Lucas Newton, has a softer than expected market but is remaining patient in free agency.

Trent is not a minimum player so MIL must be looking at a S&T.

It would be a good pick-up for them.

A S&T would be extremely difficult to do, Toronto's roster is full and they're a 400k under the tax, plus the Bucks are over the 2nd apron so they can't accept a trade like that.

Interesting, BB Reference still has them a $185m, Hoops Hype at $194m and Spotrac at $206m... who to believe? Either way, you're right. I thought (at $185), getting under the 1st apron was a possibility. That doesn't appear to be the case....

But that was my original point. It doesn't seem like they have much chance of landing Gary Trent Jr. Their only hope seems to be promising him a starting role and hoping he'll take the minimum. This guy's better than that.

I just went off of Spotrac, 206 with holds, 192 without and very much agree that it's a long ways to go to get under that 1st apron. I don't think Toronto is interested in helping him anyways, maybe?

I agree that he's worth more than the vet min and he really screwed himself not taking the 15m early in the process from Toronto - him and Klutch just way over valued him. Reports have have him taking a 1 year deal and look again next summer but what a gamble on a min.

I don’t see him playing on a team with dame again especially after his trade from the blazers and what his dad said about dame

There are a lot of teams with various incarnations of the MLE still available. I don't see him as a full MLE guy, but maybe the "room" MLE. I also don't really see him as a starter on a good team... but MIL would need him to start, so they have that in their favor. Maybe if he starts for MIL and they last a couple of rounds in the playoffs perceptions of him will change.

I honestly don't think Dame cares what an old, NBA journeyman like Gary Trent senior said about him half a decade ago.

Spotrac is the one to go with. They do update pretty much an hour after a player get signed.

Instead of telling us the Bucks are interested..maybe do a little research and figure out how will the Bucks make this happen. They don't have the kind of money Garry is looking for and even if it is a cheap deal, can the Bucks get him?

It's too bad Garry didn't accept the 15 million from the Raps.. now the market is saying he is not even worth 10 million.
