Tyus Jones, Suns Agree To One-Year, $3.3M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Jul 27, 2024 8:15 pm

Point guard Tyus Jones and the Phoenix Suns have agree to a one-year deal. Jones will sign for Phoenix for the veteran minimum for next season.

Jones told ESPN that he and his agent considered multiple sign-and-trade opportunities. In the end, Jones felt that signing with the Suns was the best way to rebuild his value before going back onto the free agent market next summer.

As a first-time starter last season, Jones averaged career-highs nearly across the board for the Washington Wizards. Jones averaged 12.0 points on 49/41/80 shooting splits and 7.3 assists in 66 games.

After having point guard be an issue for the entirety of last season, Phoenix addressed the position this summer. The Suns have add Jones and Monte Morris to bring into two veterans to add depth at lead ballhandler.

This seems cheap as hell.

It is, but no one has any cap space. A few teams have portions of the MLE available, but this was his best opportunity to start on a good team. He could easily average 15/8 and become one of the more sought after FA's next off season. My guess is that Allen will get moved to the bench, but Tyus should get near career high in minutes either way.

This is an awesome move by Phoenix. They have a history of finding good point guards and building them into next level players. It's a rich history dating way back to the 90s...Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Chris Paul...I'm not saying Tyus Jones is in that class of point guard, but he'll get an opportunity to prove that he might be.

Phoenix turned Chris Paul into a next level player?! huuuuuh
He's been playing less games every year since joining the Suns.

Tyus has been a stud. He needs a team to take a chance on him like Toronto did with IQ.
Mr. Jones is a dimer and it was shown during his Memphis days - Wizards had a gem, but they shot themselves in the foot with Poole.

Ironically, the biggest issue he's dealing with is some older players are still maintaining their output. Keeps teams from moving on.
The ones that have, hit big and have their future developing.

Getting that Spurs job after CP3 calls it makes too much sense.

Chris Paul rejuvenated his career in Phoenix. I think you get my meaning. They have a long standing tradition with point guards. That's ALLLLLLLLLLL I was saying. No need for you to act like a cheeky c**t.

I'm really supposed that I took so long for him to find a deal and when he finally got one it was for so little. Tyus can play, dude should fire his agent.

It doesn't matter. If Tyus breaks out, PHX won't be able to keep him.

Knicks should’ve signed him.
