Draymond Green Says He'll Probably Play Two More Seasons

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 26, 2024 12:18 pm

As a guest on Jeff Teague's Club 520 podcast, Golden State Warriors big man Draymond Green touched on his future. When speaking about building for what's next, Green said he knows his playing career is coming to an end.

"I’m on the wrong side of my down slide. Like, I’m headed into Year 13," Green said. "I probably got two more (seasons)."

Green then spoke about how important it is to him to have already started the next phase of his career. He talked about his podcast and being on TV as things he wanted to start doing before his career was over.

Green has three seasons and $77.7 million left on the four-year deal he signed with the Warriors in 2023. The final season in 2026-27 is a player option worth $27.7 million.

No way Green is leaving money on the table. He will play at least 3 seasons because there's no doubt he will pick up his player option.

He’ll play out his full contract and then call it quits because nobody will want him except for China. He’ll be hurt and old by then.

Agreed there's no chance he doesn't pick up that PO in 26-27.

Two more seasons? Interesting. So is he counting as the first one and then next season as the second season or he's finishing out the contract?

Draymond is a smart business man. Knowing him he's probably working on a deal with Amazon, that's probably going to be worth a bit more than what he can make in that final season. I'm guessing he signs 5-8 yr $180-200 Mil with Amazon. He's probably going to be the new "Chuck".

Draymond is no Chuck. He also doesn’t have the social contacts Chuck had. Chuck was golfing with Trump while stumping for Obama back in the days. Tiger was like his little brother.

I get that, however, I said he's "PROBABLY" going to be the new "Chuck" didn't say he is. What I'm saying is he can be if he wants to. Also, those days of having friends in both camps, are pretty much done. So he'll never live up to Chuck but he can try too.

1st off your crazy to think he's going to sign a deal like that immediately after playing. He's in no way in that type of demand. 2nd Whatever contract or deal he signs for after playing is going to still be there if he plays an extra yr and there's no guarantee of longevity in his post playing career meaning that he would likely be leaving money on the table by not playing the extra yr andnpushing his post playing career 3rd Even the outrageous numbers you floated would only be worth slightly more than his player option.

Curry has this season and next left on his contract. If the Warriors can't be a legitimate threat in the playoffs over this period I could see Draymond hanging up his Nikes. Chuck is making $21 mil per year from TNT so there is no income stream problem for Draymond when he retires from the NBA.

Draymond ALREADY has a contract with TNT. And a podcast. Love him or hate him, he has the hot takes people want to hear. Draymond has a huge broadcasting career waiting for him as soon as he's ready.

Not sure if you know this but WBD/TNT currently lost the rights to the NBA so, he's most likely a free agent soon. To your second point, I believe Draymond is more aware that his time in the NBA is coming to an end sooner rather than later. The Warriors aren't going to extend once he's extension-eligible, and 2nd if this coming out now, that means he has it in the back of his mind.

Did you know next season '24-25, is the last season we'll see Inside the NBA on TNT? He's going to position himself to go with new money and not old money.

And the contract is/was nowhere near the outrageous numbers stated he would get. 2nd Everyone and their brother has a podcast, there's nothing special about that. 3rd None of that changes anything about what I said
