Marcus Morris Likely To Sign With Cavaliers Or Sixers

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Aug 2, 2024 12:13 pm

Marcus Morris plans to play next season, which would be his 14th NBA season. Morris has seemingly narrowed his decision down to re-signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers or returning to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Morris played for both the Cavs and Sixers last season. He was traded to Philadelphia as a part of the deal that sent James Harden to the LA Clippers. In 37 games (seven starts) with the 76ers, Morris averaged 6.7 points in 17.2 minutes per game and shot 40% on three-pointers.

After a salary-shedding deal at the trade deadline, Morris signed with Cleveland following a buyout from the San Antonio Spurs. In 12 games with the Cavaliers, Morris averaged 5.8 points and shot 41.4% on three-pointers. He then had a handful of productive games for the Cavs in the playoffs.

Morris isn't prioritizing money in his next contract. Instead, Morris is focused on being with a team where he can have an actual role and play.

Both PHI and PHX really need backup PF's, but he will get more run in PHI. He might start in PHI. That roster seriously lacks length. It's the East, so they will probably have home court, but they have no shot of contending unless they fill out the roster.

Yeah I think he would start at least some games, Sixers really can’t have Caleb Martin at the 4 next to PG for big minutes. They’re already a shaky rebounding team and that lineup ain’t gonna work (shooting is a little weak too with Oubre and Martin lineups).

They’ll very likely get a better solution via trade at some point but Morris would get lotta run until that happens.

Yeah, my biggest concern for PHI is defending bigger PF's. Pual George is their third biggest non-rookie player (height & weight) and Embiid and Drummond should never be on the floor together. Outside of Embiid, it's looking like a strangely undersized roster.

Maybe PHI can lock in a deal for both Morris Bros? I wonder if they still share a bank account. They were never happier than when playing together.
