Cam Thomas Focused On Improving All-Around Game

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Aug 23, 2024 1:34 pm

Brooklyn Nets guard Cam Thomas know his team is in transition. For Thomas, that means focusing on his own improvement, while hoping that will lead the Nets to wins.

When asked what he can improve upon to get to the next level, Thomas said he has room to go grow everywhere.

"Just doing everything—doing it consistently. I had the biggest jump in points from my second year to my third year," Thomas said. "I was at 22.5 [points per game], so I think trying to get into that 25 ppg range, upping the playmaking and just trying to keep improving my all-around game. And hopefully, it leads to wins."

As for specifics with his own offense, Thomas is focused on improving his shot.

"Last summer, I tried to put more emphasis on catch-and-shoot shooting, and I think I was way up in the League percentage-wise on catch-and-shoot [this past season]," Thomas said. "So, just continue to work on that and fine-tuning the skills I had coming into the League, like my off-the-dribble stuff and finishing around the basket, [while] still improving on catch-and-shoot, trying to have the best percentage in the League."

He seems more focused on scoring more, with some interest in improving his all-around game.

I want to take my game from the black hole it is today, to an elite devourer of worlds

Headline does not match the information from Thomas in this blurb.

Cam's interpretation of "all-around game" contains zero mentions of passing, setting picks, defense, rebounding, ballhandling, BB IQ, leadership, hustle, conditioning, or teamwork.

Dude is 100% focused on buckets.

LOL

I think BRK knows that Cam is not a foundational piece. He will probably achieve his goal of 25+ PPG and get traded by the deadline. I can't imagine BRK wants to be the team negotiating with Cam as a RFA next summer.

He is a professional scorer...think a Lou Williams with the minutes...If he improved on his passing, defense, and his basketball IQ, his PPG will decline drastically and he will no longer be relevant scoring 12-14 points per game...He needs to pick his poison...Good player but not foundational piece..still young for sure

He doesn’t say anything about improving his defense.

Why on earth would he mention scoring? That team is a bottom feeder team. He will likely avg 25 because that team has no one and he loves to chuck. Had he said defense and playmaking and not “all around” I’d definitely give a head nod.

a lot of players literally dont have confidence in their defense the way ben simmons doesnt have confidence in his shot and they disengage to avoid looking like they cant guard because looking unengaged is better in their mind.

really going to take a coach or player to lead him help him build himself up there.

You must be young. I was never a Melo fan, but people really need to stop comparing every poor defender to Melo. Melo wasn't a good scorer in his prime, he was ELITE; one of the most difficult covers in the NBA for over a decade. 10x All Star, 6x All-NBA.

No, Cam Thomas does not remotely resemble Melo... try Monta Ellis!

Wow! I thought my Monta Ellis take was a little dated and then I read down the page and saw you made the same comp. Great minds, as they say... but do we really need to insult Cam Thomas and Monta by bringing Jordan Poole into the conversation?

Sounds like a bunch of closet GMs trying to tank Cam’s trade stock for their benefit…very funny reading these comments
