Warriors Told Brandin Podziemski They Had No Plans To Trade Him

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Aug 28, 2024 1:15 pm

Brandon Podziemski was mentioned regularly in trade discussions this summer. That came up most often between the Golden State Warriors and Utah Jazz in talks that would have sent Lauri Markkanen to the Bay Area. However, the Warriors never had any intention of trading Podziemski.

"A lot of these other teams are calling about you," Podziemski said Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. told him after a workout near draft night. "They want you, but you’re not going anywhere. You’re ours."

Podziemski said he's happy he stayed with the Warriors. The second-year guard recognizes the team's investment in him, but Podziemski said that he's just going to be himself vs trying to replace Klay Thompson.

"I think for me, anything in life, if you do something good, with good comes expectation," Podziemski said. "I mean, I won’t go into games thinking about it. I just know what I’ve done all offseason. I know how much better of a player I’m going to be. Obviously, I have expectations for myself to perform. This is my job. But I don’t think there’s any nervousness to exceed expectations. I’m just going to be me."

Does he have star potential? I didn’t really see it, but maybe I didn’t watch enough.

I don't see it either, but definitely has scoring outburst potential. Could be like a sizier, better rebounding Divincienzo which would be a good starter that provides some great spacing. Don't think you want him being your go to guy, but could be solid secondary scorer I'd say, like a productive fourth option on your starting unit that can play on and off ball effectively.

Don't know if Curry had obvious star potential in his early years either, but at some point he just blew up. Warriors are 100% hoping for the same or similar even tho we all know there wont be 2nd Curry there is some potential in Podziemski. I think they are right to bet on him and kinda stop trading away good young assets so often. They need to start building a new young core, cuz their current core is old and almost done.

If anyone watch him play often, you know he does. Most rookies were in Kerr's dog house, including Kuminga who has been an absolutely stud when he gets the minute and has the stats to show for. But Kuminga didn't do all of the defensive stuff that Kerr wanted and he ended up in the dog house for large part of his years. Yet BP was Kerr's favorite, earning play time and starting over Klay Thompson. He had the stats to show for when he plays as well as the intangibles, doing things to win that you don't see showing up on the stat sheet such as taking charges (leading the league) by being at the right spot at the right time. Dude can also run the team with confidence that you don't see in rookies and he could shoot. I won't be surprised that he would be taking over after Curry.

Problem with these forums is a large number don't really watch the games and then comment just based on what they see in social media or podcasts. During the LM trade rumors, I posted this BP is the reason why Klay got benched and let go- I'm sure 95%+ of the commentors were not aware of this.

Being a star is kind of "overrated" and missing the point with BP's potential. He can be a super role player type. People used to joke that Steph Curry was the best role player of all time. BP also, as others have said, has all the intangibles. A championship team NEEDS someone like him on their roster, especially in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement landscape when you cant just stack multiple StArS together and try to win that way.
