Trae Young's Trade Market 'As Chilly As It Has Ever Been'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Jul 5, 2024 5:31 pm

Trae Young has been linked with a potential trade to the San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers, but sources tell ESPN's Zach Lowe that neither team has shown much interest in acquiring him recently. The Hawks are resetting their roster around Young, Jalen Johnson and Zaccharie Risacher after trading away Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Spurs control Atlanta first round picks in 2025, 2026 and 2027, creating little incentive for the Hawks to enter into a full rebuild. This also puts San Antonio in a unique position where they could probably acquire Young at a lesser cost than only other team because they could hand those draft picks back to the Hawks as part of a trade. The Houston Rockets were in a similar position with the Brooklyn Nets on trade talks with Mikal Bridges, but he was traded instead at a higher price to the New York Knicks while they acquired future picks from the Phoenix Suns instead.

Young, who is represented by Aaron Mintz and Drew Morrison, is on a five-year, $212 million contract after he qualified for the Rose rule in 2022. Young cannot become a free agent until 2026 with his player option. In 54 games in 23-24, Young averaged 25.7 points, 10.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 36.0 minutes. As talented as Young is as the engine of an offense, he can be excessively heliocentric and is also a liability on defense.

"The market for Young is as chilly as it has ever been," writes Lowe.

the joke of this whole thing is that it makes sense for the spurs to keep the pick unless they catch wind that ATL might get someone who helps them in the win column, lowering the value of the picks the spurs have.

Undersized guard never win a ring as the lead, except Stephen Curry. That's why Curry is so unique and absolutely is top 5 all time in modern NBA.

I'm not a Trae fan, but Isiah Thomas says hello.

No he isn't, but he's bigger than Trea. He also moves almost nonstop when he doesn't have the ball. They are actually very different players.

I'm not a Trae fan, but Isiah Thomas says hello.

The first player I think of when I hear this is Avery Johnson. (5-10)
TOR in 2019 gave us a two-fer with Lowry backed up by FVV. (6-0)
Derek Fisher and Rondo are the same size as Trae and combined for 7 rings. (6-1)
Chalmers, Kyrie and Tony Parker only got an inch on Trae. (6-2)

What you might notice is that (aside from Kyrie) this is a list of players that try their asses of on D. Trae does not.

"Excessively heliocentric and a liability on defense"

Says it all right there.

The Sixers never really figured out how to win with Iverson, either, although Larry Brown got close. It's because you really cannot win with these types of players.

But... dirty little secret... not all teams are trying to win the championship.
