Hornets Sign Marcus Garrett, Keyontae Johnson, Caleb McConnell, Joel Soriano

The Charlotte Hornets filled out their camp roster by signing a quartet of players. The Hornets signed guards Marcus Garrett and Caleb McConnell, forward Keyontae Johnson and center Joel Soriano to training camp deal. Charlotte has an open two-way spot, and this foursome may be competing for that one opening.

Garrett played for the Hornets G League affiliate, the Greensboro Swarm, last season. He averaged 10.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.8 steals for the Swarm. Garrett previously played on a two-way contract for the Miami Heat.

McConnell played for the Oklahoma City Blue of the G League last season. He averaged 7.1 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 steals.

Johnson spent last season on a two-way deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He saw limited NBA action. In 38 games with the Blue, Johnson averaged 19.7 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Soriano went undrafted out of St. John's at the 2024 NBA Draft. As a senior for the Red Storm, Soriano averaged 13.8 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.

No team is better at signing guys you never heard of and then they actually make the roster.

That's because the Hornets are cheap and the team sucks. I don't think I could name everyone making over 10M on their team if I tried. Let me try: Lonzo, Grant Williams, Miles Bridges... not sure if #2 pick rookie scale gets Brandon Miller to 10M, that's honestly all I can think of!
