Jeff Passan has emerged as a candidate to move from covering the MLB for ESPN to NBA to replace Adrian Wojnarowski as the network's lead newsbreaker, according to multiple sources who spoke with Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.
Shams Charania is another top candidate for the job, according to sources. Charania currently writes for The Athletic.
ESPN also has in-house insiders such as Ramona Shelburne, Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps.
Passan makes approximately $1 million per year in his lower profile role covering the MLB. It is not yet known if Passan would agree to the switch if formally offered. If Passan were to take the job, Wojnarowski and Bobby Marks could serve as mentors as he begins reporting on a league he has limited experience covering.
