Alperen Sengun is hopeful of signing a contract extension with the Houston Rockets before the Oct. 21 deadline. Sengun is eligible to sign a deal worth up to $224 million over five seasons.
“We’ve been talking,” Sengun said. “I want to get the contract, and (the Rockets are) trying to negotiate with us and we’re trying to negotiate with them. So, it’s been good. We’re going to make it work. We still have time, you know, and hopefully we can make it work.”
According to a source that spoke with the Houston Chronicle, there is a "legitimate chance" Sengun and the Rockets will reach agreement on an extension. Sengun is earning $5.4 million this season and would have a cap hold of $16.3 million next offseason if he doesn't sign an extension and becomes a restricted free agent. Sengun is represented by agents Sean Kennedy and Bora Sancar.
In 63 games last season, Sengun averaged 21.1 points, 9.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 32.5 minutes.
