NBA Injuries Up 35% Over Last Season

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Nov 12, 2024 1:52 pm

The list of injured players in the NBA reads like a who's who list of superstars. In all, teams are on pace to have over 1000 games missed by star players this season.

Per injury tracking date from Jeff Stotts of In Street Clothes, games missed are up by 35% compared to the same point in the 2023-24 season. In addition, lost games are up over 16% already compared to the season before that.

It was hoped that the combination of the NBA's Player Participation Policy and a 65-game requirement for postseason awards would see players on the floor more. Instead, absences by star players are tending upwards. The Participation Policy defines a star player as someone who has made an All-Star or All-NBA team in the last three seasons. There are 49 such players this season and they've already combined to miss 83 games, compared to 67 last season.

All the losers trying to tank.
The good thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.
The bad thing about BI is he can shoot over defenders.

I've been gradually losing Interest in the NBA for a few years now, but I've found this season to just feel different somehow, and I'm not enjoying it very much. Could be just me, but I barely recognize the game anymore, and the rampant injuries don't help.

You know they make you stronger, but also more brittle and less flexible, right?

I don't think the 76ers, Bucks and Pelicans are trying to tank

Players should only receive a percentage of their salary when sick/injured like regular working people do or like in the NFL

Huh? So play your tale off, get hurt while playing your tale off, and don't get a payment for it? Why not just let the team "fire" the player for getting hurt, and then they can immediately become a fee agent afterwards.

The NFL only plays a handful of games for the entire season, so the rules are different.

Not true, not everybody that takes PED trains like a bodybuilder.

What it's true it's PEDs can maxifiy the intensity you can play/train.

In the long term it could lead to more injuries. If you move faster and jump higher the accidents are more likely, also the punishment in ligaments, tendons, etc. There is a reason Jokic never gets hurt.

That's not fair, they're not getting injured on purpose. If a player is injury prone, that's on the team to factor that into the players salary when they negotiate a contract.

If they lose salary because of injuries, then you run the risk of players trying to force themselves to play and potentially making things a lot worse.

Sorry. Edit below.

You know [PEDs] can make you stronger, but definitely also more brittle and less flexible, right?
