Josh Giddey Says His Lack Of Defense Is Keeping Him Off the Floor

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Nov 16, 2024 10:42 pm

Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan hasn't had Josh Giddey in his closing lineup over the last week. Giddey knows that it's his defense that's keeping him off the floor.

"It was horrible from start to finish," Giddey said of his play. "I think defensively it was just — and I’m talking about me — it was a mess from the jump. They put me in action, I have to be way better, whether it’s coverage or sitting down and guarding somebody. I don’t even blame it on the fouls. It was part of it, but everything else was just as bad. I wouldn’t have played myself if I was Billy. I was bad on both sides of the ball."

Giddey felt he had been improving defensively, but recognizes he's taken a step back.

"It pisses me off to be on that side of the ball and be like that," Giddey said. "I thought I was making steps in the right direction. To have a night like I did tonight kind of kills your confidence."

However, Donovan said he's still "got confidence" in Giddey. The Bulls coach said to expect to see the young wing back in closing lineups eventually.

That was some nice self-awareness.

Of course, saying the right words at a press conference is always easier than do the right things at court.

Still there are so many players (some of them even decorated stars) apparently living in a denial chamber of their frailties and blaming everything at sight for their failures...

It's always nice to hear a fair admittance of a poor delivery from a professional player.

Was he a decorated reporter/influencer/insider I'd be even talking of an historic moment.

Hell will freeze before one of those do that.

That’s what truly surprised me. Really happy to see this and will start rooting for him for this very reason.

It may be the Australianess in him to say that. But still nice to see. I guess Serbians don’t have a similar attitude. There is a certain overrated “superstar” in the league that is truly ruining the game, being a child, complaining all the time, not being fit, and a complete trash leader, he is definitely talented and that’s keeping him in sight, but its really sad to see, if he had a similar attitude he would definitely be better for himself and his team, i think its pretty clear who im talking about.

Incredibly refreshing.

Props to Giddey.
