Nuggets Have Internally Considered Trading Michael Porter Jr.

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Dec 20, 2024 7:03 pm

The Denver Nuggets have weighed whether to trade Michael Porter Jr. as they look to remake their roster around Nikola Jokic with a limit of ways to do so, sources tell The Stein Line. The Nuggets explored the possibility of using Porter in a trade for Paul George this past offseason. Denver has since expanded those internal discussions of trading Porter more strongly now.

Zeke Nnaji's $8.8 million salary is the only significant contract the Nuggets could otherwise use for matching purposes.

Sources have also confirmed The Athletic's report that there are supporters of Zach LaVine throughout the Nuggets' front office.

If the Nuggets do decide to trade Porter, there is a thought that it might be better to acquire two rotation players rather than a single one such as LaVine. The Stein Line suggests hypothetical swaps such as Porter to the Atlanta Hawks for De'Andre Hunter and Bogdan Bogdanovic, or to the Brooklyn Nets for Cam Johnson and Dorian Finney-Smith could be the type of one-for-two trade that makes the Nuggets better overall.

Why, exactly, would the Hawks move Hunter for him alone, let alone with Bogdan? They're already top 10 in ORB% and 13th in DRB%.

Hunter's shooting 45% from 3 right now on the same 6 per that Porter is taking at 38%.

Exactly, why would Nuggets trade a superior 3p shooter for two not-so-superior ones?

Why would the Nets want to trade Cam Johnson for a more expensive and less reliable MPJ? Unless 2 unprotected/1 unprotected + 1 lightly protected 1st rounder were attached... MPJ's a role player like Cam but being paid like a star for another 2 years at nearly double the salary of Cam.

Hmm idk. I’d rather just risk losing with who they have.

Only way Hawks do this is to please Trae. Him and Porter grew up best friends..but it would be a bad trade for the Hawks

Trading MPJ for Lavine should be a no brainer. Defensive hole remains while Lavine would deliver way more and way more often offensively. Especially with Jokic next to him. MPJ is talented but too much time has passed and his consistency is still worrying.

Its been said but trading Porter is their only avenue to potentially get better. Unfortunately none of these trades seem possible without DEN giving up more. Lavine makes sense but I don't know if it makes DEN better. 1 for 2 is the right idea but they might need to aim lower
