Kings 'Were Trying To Make It Work' With Mike Brown 'Until Very Last Moment'

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Dec 30, 2024 9:55 pm

The decision by the Sacramento Kings to fire Mike Brown appears to have been a controversial one both within their franchise and outside of it.

"Nobody wanted to fire Mike," one Kings source said. "He's a good coach. People here really care about him. Until the very last moment we were trying to make it work."

The Kings allowed Brown to run the film session and practice on Friday before informing him of their decision to part ways.

General manager Monte McNair convened several calls and meetings with associate GM Wes Wilcox, team president Matina Kolokotronis and governor Vivek Ranadivé throughout the Kings' 0-5 homestand, sources said. That group discussed Brown's status again Thursday evening after their loss to the Detroit Pistons and decided to sleep on it before a Friday call led to a decision. The Kings did not seek input from De'Aaron Fox or Domantas Sabonis before firing Brown.

Fox also contends he and Brown had a good relationship and he didn't want him fired.

"I feel like there's this perception that people thought that we were at odds," Fox told ESPN. "You can ask anybody in this organization: me and Mike have never even had an argument. We could disagree with something. We talked about it and it was gone."

All the people who were responsible for Brown's firing, are the folks who are responsible for the roster that led them to fire him.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

"The very last moment" being when Brown was farthest away from the facility when the phone call finally came? Timely, that

Yea this makes zero sense when it comes to longterm plans to build and keep DeAaron Fox. About a month ago RealGM even had a report with its headline Fox questioning his longterm plans in Sacramento. He’s a goner imo and they are heading for a rebuild. He can net them an extreme package. Sabonis should be moved as well

The problem is the depth.. it's ALWAYS been the depth.

The Kings really think they're supposed to be a top 4/5 team with this roster? Brown was doing his best with what the GM gave him. This firing going to set them back another decade watch.

Yeah, this is just them trying to save face after Michael Malone and others came out criticizing the firing. Brown turned the franchise around, won coach of the year and all of the sudden they blame him.

Christie isn't gonna do much better and may have lost Fox and/or Sabonis in the long run. Should have like Brown coach the rest of the season and then evaluate. Maybe make a change if there's a better coach available in the off-season. Or if they didn't turn it around and we're out of the playoff picture completely or if Fox or Sabonis had issues with Brown then I can see them needing a change, but as it looks like right now, that's not the case.

An atheletic gaurd who can't shoot 3s and has a high assist to turnover ratio.. Reminds me of another player I would never build around.. Westbrick.

Lol I love the commenters here, as much as I love basketball and football they have some of the dumbest fans. The kings don't discuss the firing with the players ahead of time and the commenters line up saying it's a dysfunctional organization because of that yet when other teams with star players discuss the moves with the players the same fans line up and call it dysfunctional and say something along the lines of players should play. Lol make up your minds, either teams should or shouldn't discuss moves with players but to change the narrative of whether it's good based on if fans like the player is 1 of the stupidest things commonly seen here.

Yea honestly I was looking at his stats the other day and I was questioning if he plateaued. His 3pt shot is really not improving. I just think he’s never gonna be a lead on a title winning team. He needs to be the second option.
