The future first round picks of the Miami Heat will be heavily impacted by whether they reach the playoffs this season. If the Heat are in the lottery, then a first round pick owed to the Oklahoma City Thunder will become unprotected in 2026.
It would also impact a first round pick the Heat owe to the Charlotte Hornets for the Terry Rozier trade where it would go from a 2027 protected pick to an unprotected 2028 first round selection.
Miami originally sent out the initial first round to the Los Angeles Clippers as part of their sign-and-trade to acquire Jimmy Butler in 2019. The Thunder later acquired that pick from the Clippers and changed the terms of the selection as part of a February 2022 trade involving KZ Okpala.
The Heat are currently tied for the fifth in the Eastern Conference and have a reasonably good shot at reaching the playoffs regardless of what happens with the ongoing Butler situation.
