Heat Have No Interest In Bradley Beal Due To No Trade Clause

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Jan 6, 2025 1:20 pm

The Miami Heat have had Jimmy Butler trade discussions with several teams over the last week. One of the interested teams is the Phoenix Suns, but Bradley Beal's no-trade clause is a sticking point in a possible trade.

For one, Beal has to approve of any deal, or he can use his no-trade clause to block it. The second issue is that Miami doesn't want to take on Beal, given his no-trade clause would stay intact even after a second trade on the same contract. That means for a trade to happen, a third team likely needs to be involved. And that third team would need to be one that Beal approves of being dealt to.

Beal is owed $50.2 million this season. He has two seasons remaining on his deal beyond this one. Beal will make $53.6 million in 2025-26, followed by a $57.1 million player option in 2026-27.

Chris Haynes reported on Sunday that the Suns will replace Bradley Beal in their starting lineup this week. Rookie Ryan Dunn will take Beal's place as a starter.

Why would any team trade for this? Unless some first-round picks were attached.

It seems to me the alternative is that if Beal would waive his no trade clause completely for the heat then they would accept taking him.. Beal might not want to do that.. The suns really need this trade though.. Beal Booker Durant is not a good fit Butler on the other hand would actually be a different type of player that would improve the suns.. I doubt it enough to make them contenders but better yes..

Here is the problem with your statement. Beal is a downgrade.

You trade for Beal, if your team is underachieving, and you have no meaningful way to improve via draft or another trade without giving up a ton of picks in the next two years, and you are not ready for a rebuild. After all it's just a little more money for some billionaire, if you can make the salary cap work.

Heat are definitely a treadmill team without Jimmy maybe even with him.. Too good to outright suck and yet not good enough to really compete.. Having beal on the roster would not improve them but it probably wouldn't hurt then either that said all suns can offer is 1 first round pick.. I dunno the heat are stuck they don't have a star to propel them and don't look like getting one any time soon.
