Before Jimmy Butler requested a trade, the Miami Heat had not looked into trading him. The Heat also made no attempts to try to trade Butler during the offseason. While the Heat didn't offer Butler an extension, they had planned to play out the season in hopes they could go another playoff run with him.
Entering the season, Miami strongly believed Butler would play out the season and not do anything disruptive.
Butler has a $52.4 million player option for next season that he has signaled he will decline to become a free agent.
The Heat are listening to trade offers on Butler now, but the market has been soft and they are planning for him to rejoin their team ahead of Friday's home game against the Denver Nuggets. No team has been willing to offer anything intriguing to the Heat.
