Jimmy Butler To Phoenix Trade Seems Closer; Suns Yet To Talk To Bradley Beal About Trade

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:37 pm

The Phoenix Suns draft-pick trade with the Utah Jazz appears to be about stocking up draft capital to swing a deal for Jimmy Butler. The Suns now appear to have the capital to entice other teams to take on contracts in a deal to acquire Butler from the Miami Heat.

One of those players is likely to be Bradley Beal. However, the Suns reportedly still haven't talked with Beal about any trade possibilities. The veteran guard has a no-trade clause and would have to approve any trade that sends him away from Phoenix.

Phoenix is expected to have to attach a draft pick or two to get a team to take on the $110 million owed to Beal for the next two seasons after this one. In addition, the Suns could use a now-tradable third pick to incentivize a team to eat the $19 million owed to Jusuf Nurkic for the 2025-26 season.

Even after all the trades, all the draft picks, etc...a trio of KD, Booker, and Butler is not much better than what PHX currently has; and they most certainly are no closer to being title contenders had they just stood pat.

How many years are the Suns going to devote to getting incompatible, too similar players, stacked up in their lineup? It's not working. This has been going on for years now, before it was Point Guards

That's the problem with these new billionaire owners. They think they can just throw money at the problem and win immediately. No patience or long term vision.
Game, blouses.

Jimmy is old and overpaid, but he is a very different player than anyone on the PHX roster.

KD/Jimmy/Book are some of the few players left who still play a mid-range game. I think the main issue why they won't work together though is they are all ball dominant - Jimmy of course to a lesser degree.

Why not move Booker instead? Seriously asking; not trolling. It would clear longer term salary without giving up FRPs. I just feel like Beal is a better fit than Booker.

FYI - I passively watch the Suns do not follow them that closely.

KD is 14th in the NBA in USG%. Booker is 26th. Beal is 95th.... Jimmy is 121st! (4th on his own team!) He is not ball dominant.
KD is 12th in the NBA in FGA. Booker is 14th. Beal is 68th.... Jimmy is 111th! (4th on his own team!) He is not ball dominant.

I wouldn't say that KD and Booker "play a mid-range game." I'd say they play an all-around game. They average 7.8 and 5.6 3PA respectively. Roughly 36% of their shots are 3pt. Jimmy is at 1.4 (13%) but he's also at only 10.5 FGA's with a higher TS% than KD or Booker... so it seems to be working. And let's face it, he won't be going to PHX to shoot.

Look, I can't believe that I'm sticking up for Jimmy. I don't think PHX (or anyone else) should be giving up assets to go get him... but he will make PHX better in the short term. (Not contenders, just better.) Lord help them two years from now!

Pretty simple… Booker is the future. Why would they trade him!? They are building around him.
