Mavs Began Hesitating Over Signing Luka Doncic To Supermax Contract Months Ago

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Feb 2, 2025 4:52 pm

The Dallas Mavericks began hesitating over the possibility of signing Luka Doncic to a supermax extension this offseason months ago, according to Marc Stein of The Stein Line.

The Mavs were concerned about Doncic's commitment to conditioning and staying healthy.

Doncic, who has currently missed 19 games with a calf strain suffered on Christmas, has been targeting a February 8 return.

The severity of the injury, along with concerns about how Doncic has managed his weight and diet, set off "alarm bells" within the Mavs.

With the trade, Doncic is no longer eligible for the five-year. $345 million supermax extension
