Spurs Acquire De'Aron Fox; Kings Receive Zach LaVine With Three Firsts

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 3, 2025 1:43 am

The San Antonio Spurs have acquired De'Aaron Fox from the Sacramento Kings as part of a three-team trade involving the Chicago Bulls. The Kings will acquire LaVine as well as Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back).

Chicago acquires Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick back from the Spurs.

The Spurs will also acquire Jordan McLaughlin.

Great trade for Spurs - but will be interesting fit given Fox’s lack of ability to shoot from long range (32% from three )

But compared to the Luka deal this one looked decent on paper

The Bulls got their own pick back AND were able to dump LaVine? Crazy that the Spurs got the best player in the deal but I'm thinking Chicago actually won it. A+

Spurs a close second moving 4 firsts, 3 seconds, and a couple of 3rd stringers for Fox. A

Kings? If the Mavs handn't just handed Luka to the Lakers, I'd have said this was the worst trade I've seen since Minnesota handed KAT to the Knicks for Randle, DiVincenzo, and the Detroit first. D-

Kind of, but when you look at it closer you see the Kings made a really stupid mistake involving Chicago.

They gave up on the 4th Spurs pick (Chicago 2025 #1), Zach Collins (who would have been a solid backup for Sabonis), Tre Jones (who would have been a solid backup PG), and Huerter (ok fine, Huerter has been trash for the last two seasons) to bring in Zach LaVine -- a guy the Bulls were previously considering pairing with draft capital just to get rid of?

Who plays defense on the Kings now?
C Sabonis? No.
PF Murray? He was an ok defender as a 3, but as a 4? No.
SF DeRozan? No.
SG LaVine? Don't make me laugh.
PG Monk? No.

They're a talented version of the Wizards now.

Keon Ellis has to start, but both him and Malik monk are true shooting guards, this shall be interesting

What a monumentally dumb trade for SAC, I feel so bad for their fans. I guess Sabonis is their PG now. Acquiring Demar was such a dumb move from the get go, lots of people foresaw it...they couldve found a way to correct it through moving Fox but instead they doubled down on their mistake by re-pairing him with the guy he just failed so miserably with lol

The only guy that kind of makes sense to start at pg is Monk but you need Keon in the SL now, who's going to the bench?

Maybe I'm missing something, but this feels like a typical rebuilding move. Trade a player for draft picks. Lose more games, get a higher pick. Teams do this kind of move all the time.

Maybe they could have gotten more picks, but this kind of move is done all the time and there are a few valuable players available now.

Fans understand rebuilding. Some even root for it to happen.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.

I don't think that's what this is, they traded for Lavine. They got picks which is good but they clearly plan to try to remain competitive. They definitely got worse but not worse enough to start tanking.

This whole thing was extremely rushed, how long ago did the news come out that they were trying to trade him. They are lucky the Mavs just did what they did because they would be getting **** on badly for this. Both SA and CHI got great deals to
