Mark Cuban's Right Hand Man's Ties With Adelsons Gave Credence To Possibility He Would Continue To Run Basketball Ops

Jason Lutin, who is long-serving Chief of Staff for Mark Cuban Companies, had been close to the Adelson family for many years. Through Lutin, the relationship between Mark Cuban and the Adelson family grew over the past several years which ultimately led to his sale of the Dallas Mavericks to the family.

Adelson's son, Matan, was once an intern with the Mavericks. Matan now owns Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli league.

Lutin's prominent presence as a trusted associate to both Cuban and the Adelsons helped give credence to the idea that Cuban would retain control of basketball operations. When Cuban sold his majority stake in the Mavericks late in 2023, it was reported that he would retain control of basketball decisions "forevermore."

But approximately two months later by the February trade deadline, sources tell The Stein Line that Cuban's influence over basketball decisions had diminished significantly. Cuban wasn't even informed of the Mavericks' decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers until it was already agreed upon.

how on earth did he not have that rubberstamped? I'm still going with the theory it was a quick money grab on his end.

Cry more, Cubes. I hope you enjoy this payback for your constant whining that led to the Basketball Reasons. Luka looks FANTASTIC in a Lakers jersey btw.

I don't think Mark is really crying, at least not in this article. I'm sure he knew there was a possibility that he would have no say in the future once he sold the team.

As a Laker fan I am excited and happy to see all the love Luka is receiving but I truly understand all of the Mavs fans that are upset right now.

Honestly, being a long time Laker fan, since the Nick Van Exel days, I feel for the Mavs fans. I felt the same betrayal from the Lakers org when they traded Shaq, got rid of Phil Jackson and also traded Payton after basically begging him to opt in to his contract. I was a huge Shaq and Phil Jackson fan and felt them not only dismantling the entire team, Including the great Phil who neither MJ nor Kobe were able to win without, but also for a terrible package they received for Shaq.

I really became a Shaq fan and started watching Clippers games after that trade for a very long time. It wasn't until the Lakers brought back Phil Jackson where I was finally able to put the ordeal behind me. Hiring D'Antoni over Phil was another dagger to my chest, but I digress.

While the Mavs did get more back than the Lakers received for Shaq, its still an injury prone 31 about to turn 32 year old AD. Plus, I think trading Luka at only 25 is basically as if the Lakers traded Magic or Kobe at 25.

Typical result when you negotiate with those people. Better to not deal with them.

Cuban getting first hand experience of what it's like to deal with psychotic Zionists who blatantly lie constantly.
