Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have yet to make a decision on how to address his left knee, sources tell ESPN. Embiid was ruled out for the season in late February. Embiid has been seeking a wide range of medical opinions to determine the best course of action.
Embiid dealt with swelling in the knee throughout the season. Embiid had meniscus surgery in February 2024 and returned in time for the playoffs before also playing in the Olympics.
The present and future of the Sixers will be tied to whether Embiid can stay on the court and also return to his MVP form.
"Until they know what is happening with Embiid, there is no way to project what they will be next year," a league executive said. "They will have a hard time changing that roster."
Embiid and the Sixers signed a three-year, $193 million extension in September that some around the league now believe to be untradeable.
