Devin Booker, Suns Publicly Commit To Each Other

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Fri Mar 14, 2025 1:50 pm

Both the Phoenix Suns and Devin Booker are fully committed publicly and privately to continuing their partnership. With Booker in place, the Suns plan to "pivot and reload" around him in the offseason.

"Never happen," Mat Ishbia said, interrupting the question about a Booker trade. "It's silly. So here's what I'll tell you: I have Devin Booker in the prime. In order to win an NBA championship, you got to have a superstar. You got to have a great player."

The Houston Rockets have repeatedly expressed interest in Booker, who would fit their timeline as a proven star still in his 20s. The Rockets own the Suns' first round picks in 2027 and 2029.

When Booker was first drafted, the Suns averaged more than 60 losses during the first four seasons of his career. They then quickly became a title contender in 2021 and Booker is determined to reach those heights again with the Suns.

"I mean, it's a rare breed," Booker told ESPN.  "I take pride in the community in Phoenix, the people that have supported me since I was 18 when things were ugly. And the people that are with us, we just fell short of accomplishing what we want. So I want to do it, and I want to do it here.

"That's the responsibility of being a franchise player, and I wear that with honor. So it might not look the most pretty right now, but we got to get it done and I'm going to do it."

Booker is eligible to decline his $62.8 million player option for 27-28 to sign a three-year, $212 million extension this offseason.

See, what I just read was a bunch of nothing. Both side will say the right things, publicly, but best believe once KD get traded Book is out.

Pivoting to KD and then Beal when you already had your go-to guy was short-sighted and has hampered Booker's potential the last 2-3 seasons imo.

Of course modern NBA teams can have 2 or 3 stars, but the fit between these guys was never there.

The Suns have Bradley Beal, Booker and Kevin Durant right now. They're not even in the playoff pictures right now, YES PLEASE RESIGN FOR MORE MONEY Booker!! You'll just be handicapping your teams salary even FURTHER! Woooo

Booker isn't that guy at 36 KD is still better than Booker.. Booker is a second star what happened was they overpaid for KD.. Getting KD in of himself was not an issue overpaying for him leaving nothing of the roster left having no point gaurd and having to off load the first rd pick in the draft for nothing was the end of everything..

Booker is good enough as a 1a if you have a 1b on the roster and surround them with competent depth. Booker was viewed as the best player on a team that went to the Finals. (CP3 was probably more important in actuality.)

Was there a minister involved, or was it a simple civil ceremony?

Booker was viewed as better but I actually think it was cp3 who was the important one as the leader and hard nosed player.. Booker is good but he is a second guy if you want to go all the way.. They faced Giannis that too much for Booker to contend with.. They would have to go over jokic sga or luka all who I think are better than Booker.. Where does Ja sit now? I will hear an arguement for Booker or Ja.. I think KD and Steph are still better than Booker I'd argue in terms of winning Butler is also still better. Then in the east boston clearly have a better team but also is tatum better than Booker? I think most ppl would say so.. Mitchell or Booker I'd hear arguments.

I'm sure Dallas and Luca committed to each other as well, this is a whole lot of meaningless

I don't care about this article. Can we just call out Booker as a sh*t leader? If this team's record was reverse, he'd be flapping his gums to no end.

I agree with you about CP3's importance to that Suns team. But I don't think you can judge team success by who has the best player on the floor. Lebron has 4 rings; if the team with the best player won, that number would be significantly larger. Roster construction is far more important than individual dominance. (Having the best player doesn't hurt.)

Ja vs. Booker: For watching, I'll take Ja, for winning I'll take Booker all day. Better shooter and defender. Ja is much more of a "star" personality and showman than Booker, but he doesn't seem to have much affect on the win/loss record in MEM.

Tatum vs. Booker: Tatum, if only for the extra length. But I think it's closer than most people think. Situation matters. If you swapped them, BOS would still be dominant and PHX would still be in trouble.

Tatum is great, but kind of a fake MVP candidate. If you swapped him for one of the players you mentioned: Steph, SGA, Jokic or Luka (on last seasons Mavs)... each of those teams would falter. Tatum's greatest super power is the roster around him. Tatum's greatest weakness is his decision making when it matters most. If they swapped Luka for Tatum three years ago, Luka would probably have three titles.
